Four wheels move the body, 2 wheels move the soul

« on: November 06, 2011, 01:01:34 PM »

i was working on my bike today and noticed that the plug over the vacuum inlet looked cracked.  I pulled it off and sure enough you could blow through it.  I noticed when i plug it with my finger that there was no change in engine.  I pulled the spark plug wire off while running and no change again.  I could hear spark as I was putting the wire back on, gas comes out of the bowl when i loosing the screw.  HELP what else can i try
Thanks

Does it feel like it is running rough?  Can't believe that it would not be noticed until you saw that vacuum plug cracked.

If you pull the spark plug after running it with the wires hooked up, is the plug wet?

Does the cylinder have compression?

Also, you should post this to the tech board to see if someone has had a similar problem.

does not feel like it is running rough,  the pipe is cool to the touch until i rev it up not sure if it is heat from cylinder or heat radiating from engine, do not have a compression gauge, it got stolen with my tools here awhile back and i have not replaced it.  maybe the slot jet is just clogged

Does it get smoother when you rev it up and bypass the slow jets? AutoZone will lend a compression tester. If it has compression and spark, it has to be fuel delivery. Let it run at 2-3k rpm's for bit and see if the header is as hot as the others. Can you trailer it to the wrench party?

The header does get hot but i do not know if it is heat radiating done or not, i plan on trailoring it to the wrench party.  Thanks
