My motorcycle riding group is going to escort a couple of buses from the Veterans retirement home in Reserve, La. to Walker, La. this Saturday for a Vet's day parade, were they will be honored guests.

I am so looking foward to this.  Any chance to show them our appreciation for their service to this Nation is a good thing.

Me, Royal Navy 1981 - 1989

I was one of the lucky ones who came home. I will be especially remembering the 255 who gave their lives in the South Atlantic reclaiming the Falkland Islands in 1982.

Your welcome for my time - USMC 1950 - 1954 - Chosen Reservoir in July 1950 - June 1951, 2nd go round, 38th Parallel - March 1952 - August 1952 - evacuated out on a Cargo Plane to the US in a full body cast.    Spent 5 months in and out of the Naval Hospital at the Great Lakes.     Returned to duty (San Francisco - 100 Harrison St) January 1953 - January 1954. Honorable Discharge January 24, 1954 at San Francisco, then I had to go to work.    LOL.   Had a great time in the service and wouldn't trade the experience for a Million dollars, special thanks to my dad who gave it all on Iwo Jima in 1945.   R.I.P Pop, love you dearly.

Another personal Thank You to all of you vets. I just missed Vietnam and the draft. There didn't seem any reason to enlist at the time. In retrospect, I wish I'd put in a stint.
Dad was a 20 year man. (A Green Beret) I grew up in a military family, largely on base. I saw enough to understand that being in the service is far more than a job that last for x years. I watched those heros as I grew up and realized that the service was even more than a way of life. It altered them down to their very cores, bringing out the best in them, bravery, honor, loyalty, and dedication.
While I thank you for your service, I also thank God for blessing our nation with such people.

Happy Veterans day.
