cooldude cooldude

Now that seems like a good deal to me!!  though what a pain to "lock up" after so many times of just throwing helmet on the back. Would like to do the same, but i think i will just continue to throw it on the back until I get ripped off also.

That's what I was thinking it will be a hassle but I'll have to get used to it. I will only lock them when I have to.  cooldude

It is going to be a new habit that I will need to form, but I will try. It seems like the best thing to do at the moment. Hopefully by the time my new helmet comes in this will be an established helmet.

What does happen when a helmet gets stolen in a helmet State? If you ride and get caught do they let you go after your explanation? Never had any stolen but hardly wear any either. We do carry them out of State in a small bag and leave it on the bike over night. Their only $40 skid lids so I'm not out much.

Dont get the Kury or Kewl Metal grip endcap locks.  They are awsome at first, but I had to break off the Dring holder to get my wifes helmet off cause it wouldnt let go.  Took it to a locksmith and he said theres nothing he could do to make it better or repair it.  It only lasted like 3 months.  Right now we have a bike lock cable from walmart.  Smiley

Well, mine is chugging along since '05..... it can be a little irritating and troublesome with the vending machine round key and internal spring.... but it works OK.  Thinking about it, it would not be my first choice, it came on the bike and I use it from time to time.

It happened to me when I was I college 25yrs ago.  Got out of class and my helmet was gone.  I drove less than a half a mile and got pulled over.  The cop had NO sympathy for my bad luck.  He ran all my numbers and checked out everything about me.  He said I should have called someone to have brought me another helmet.  I said, had he been doing his job and patroling the campus, it might have never been stolen in the first place.

I narrowly avoided handcuffs from arguing with the cop before his supervisor showed up and drove me in the police car to buy another helmet.  You would have thought I was the bad guy.

Wait a minute, I'm the victim of a theft here!  Just trying to get home.  I have had some form of a helmet lock since.

Might be that the cop had heard the same story several before and just thought it you were bullshitting him.

It could be, just like wonder how many times the cop hears "I've only had a couple"- me included!  2funny

In a helmet state we cannot legally operate the helmet without the helmet.

I called my wife to bring me another helmet. Luckily, I had one where I could tell her how to get to it. I have a few others around but I'm not sure where. I should locate them.

Without a helmet someone would have to pick me up and give me a ride or bring me a new helmet.

My story (of riding with no helmet) is a little different, I twice gave damsels a ride, and a gentleman gives her his only helmet.

First time, I got caught by the only campus cop that wrote tickets; no helmet, and driving on an (empty) paved walkpath (dirtbike).  Did not get another moving violation on a bike for over 30 years.

Second time, she wanted to see my etchings, so I skedaddled up the road from the local tavern to my home (over 5 miles, she was worth it).... and I got lucky, twice.  Cool

Something I did in my helmet days was to put the helmet over the backrest and fasten it like I was wearing it. Might be a theft deterant since it will take a min to undo it to take the helmet.

There is something worse than having your helmet stolen. Last summer a group of us rode down to Sikeston, MO to Lambert's Cage "known for throwing your roll to you."  When we came out after eating a group of riders were standing around, some cursing, some laughing, and one ready to kill someone. Some sicko had urinated in this biker's helmet and left it open side up resting between the handlebars and the windshield with some of the liquid still in the helmet. From what we were told it was obvious what that liquid was. This was something I had never thought I would see or hear of and I found it hard to believe anyone could be fool enough to chance getting caught doing such a thing. Anyway, glad I got a trunk to store my helmet in!
