I like the way they put it.  "a momentary distraction".  I am sorry.  A blond flashing me is a momentary distraction.  An accident happening is a momentary distraction.  Putting on nail polish, or any other voluntary action, is not a "distraction".  It is a conscous decision.  And should be dealt with harshly.  This is NOT an "accident".  It is negligence, pure and simple.  It is not murder, there is no intent. But, she should have known her action could result in that accident.  Start putting these people behind bars for a couple years, and others will begin to think about what they are doing.  A $100 fine or whatever?????  Who cares.

This is why everyone should go to the Aerostitch catalog and buy one or two of these for your bike...

The above recreation shows how invisible bikers are in traffic. The biker on the yellow scooter is invisible!

That intersection is just a few miles from my home. Rand Rd., better known as Rt. 12 is a 4-lane divided highway.
Most traffic travels at 65-70 mph. The divided 4-lane has many high speed uninterrupted intersecting cross streets which makes it dangerous at the posted 55. The intersection of this occurrence is a "T" intersection. Just a few miles south it transitions into an urban 4-lane and occasional 6-lane as it progresses deeper south through the Northwest suburbs.

I have lived in this area for about 10 years and use to utilize it often. I have had too many close calls on this route over the years and even though it will get me there faster I avoid it like none other. KingBee was using it to visit us up here for awhile and I have several times, as an excuse to get a little ride in, rode with him part way home many times. He likes that route, or did, and I told him No, I won't run that way with him preferring the more rural alternatives.

It's a shame for the victim and her family.  Embarrassed
That cage driver, even at the posted 55 mph, had her hands full enough without the nail painting because as she approached that intersection it's an up-grade and curves to the right. You do not have a good view of the intersection until your on top of it. It is definitely the wrong type of intersection to be doing anything else but completely focusing on the road.

All riders should stay the hell off that Rt. I have for years and always will. Out of habit on the bike I even tend to avoid it in the cage.
