Selling Interstate Trunk

Im going to sell my I/S trunk and all mounting hardware and brackets.  I just dont see me ever using it.  When selling, I assume the new owner will have to get it re-keyed?  Anyone ship one of these trunks in the US?  What did it cost?

Sold mine six months ago. Shipping was somewhat of a pain.
Because the large size of the trunk with the relative light weight, UPS uses what they call the dimensional weight. To get DIM weight calculate L x W x H and divide by 166. My total cost including packing was around $120 to ship 1000 miles. I made a spare key for the new owner which was easier for me to do than him. The whole thing was worth the effort.

Damn, $120 is a lot.  So you basically gave him one of your keys.  I guess unless he lives nearby, there shouldnt be any worries.  Did you sell everything together or just solely the trunk?  How come you sold yours and how much did you get if you dont mind?

I sold the mounting brackets and hardware.
The key was part of the "complete" deal.
The box and packing peanuts were $40 of the $120.
I wanted to make real sure that it shipped undamaged.
Netted around $1000. Good deal for both parties.

The next ride you go on with a group of Valkyrie's, ask some of them to try their key in your ignition.

You will be surprised how many will unlock and start your rig.

Honda did not have all that many key sets when they built these bikes.   We tried it one time in Custer, SD during Bike Week.    My bike was setting on the main drag and I'd hate to estimate how many tired it, but 4 succeeded in turning the key on.

Really...???  Thats kind of scary.  I guess I should look into a bike alarm.  Maybe I'll post a thread asking for suggestions.

Just do what I do, park near the Harleys and the thieves won't even look at the Valk. LOL!

I would just make sure the trunk was unlocked when shipped. The new owner can get it re-keyed for like $10 bones to match his key (as long as it's the same style key. 2 key types were used). As far as shipping UPS you can usually save some money if you pack it yourself, and are shipping to a business instead of a residence.

A second thought on shipping: I recently had to send a fairing shell across country.  UPS and FedEx wanted almost $100.  The Post Office wouldn't touch it.  I shipped it via Greyhound Bus for $40.  It still has to meet certain size restrictions in order to fit in the luggage area of the bus, and you can't get more than $300 worth of insurance, but it might be an option to give the buyer.  The fairing arrived to my buyer without incident.
