I got shot in the neck today!! One of our crack shots pinged the metal target stand and his bullet and and it's copper jack seperated and guess where the flying piece of copper went........    A piece of it got my fellow instructor Reggie in the forehead and another piece of it got me in the neck.  The wanted to tie a tourniquet around my neck to stop the bleeding but I didn't think that would be a good idea...   Cheesy

Ouch....   be careful out there.

And don't make a big deal out of it or others might want to mandate stricter gun controls....     ha ha

Brian I am sorry to hear this, and glad it wasn't worse.  There are a couple arteries and veins in the neck from which you can drain out quickly.  I have experienced the occasional ricochet over the years, including my own 230 gr .45 singing past my head by an inch or so (I quit for the day on that one).

I don't know if this was work related, but I think you get a purple heart medal on this one (though no ememy was involved).  LOL

Brian, when I am out on the range with one my department's crack shots, I make sure I stand BEHIND them.  Especially if they're bigger than me.  Some of them have hit the target frame from 10 FEET away.   Shocked

Yes it was work related, our guys are doing thier Spring qualifications. We are using the Huttonsville State Correctional Facility shooting range. Really nice range, of course it is on the prison farm and you have to drive through a few cattle crossings to get out to it. With a week of non-stop rain it is somewhat of a mess. For the most part we have a good bunch of shooters but there are those office guys who only shoot two times a year when they have to qualify. Thank goodness they don't carry every day! The wound is pretty superficial, just bled a lot.

It's very common to get copper fragments off jacketed bullets richocheting when using steel plates or stands for practice.  2nd time I've known someone that got hit.

I was at a course, standing under an observation area with a corrogated steel roof.  The group (approx. 50 to 100 ft away), practicing ON THE OTHER SIDE OF A 10 FT CINDERBLOCK WALL, was raining fragments of bullets down on that roof while shooting steel plate.  It really made you realize how the jacketed bullets disentigrate when hitting the steel.

Be careful shooting steel and using steel stands.   You never know.

Glad your OK brian.  I too have had that happen. During a action pistol match I was in a bay helping score targets when I was hit in the foot by a jacket from the next bay over. No biggie didnt even draw blood just a supprise. That is another reason I load Ranier plated bullets. More expensive than lead but cheeper that jacketed. When shooting steal targets or poppers at close range it is easy to get hit by fragments...

Been there done that....took one in the forehead a few years back and thought I was done for before realizing what had happened.  Just here the shot and then feel the pain, see the blood, and your imagination runs wild for a few seconds.
