We’re done with our Christmas shopping . . . I just wanted to share that!  Cheesy

We picked up a semi-auto .40 cal tonight for my oldest son. He’s an Indiana resident (Ft. Wayne) and needs to get his CPL down there after Christmas, but has no idea what’s coming to him on Christmas morning! I admit, I’m excited about the gift we got him! In fact; I haven’t been this excited since I got both my sons 870’s when they were boys! He doesn’t own any handguns and when Zombies come, he’ll have to fight his way up here to our ‘Sanctuary’ base. So, there's a real "need" there! And,  of course, I figure every American should have a handgun (or 7 or 8!) If nothing else, it gives your bride time to reload your shotgun and/or assult rifle when the Zombies are trying to take your Campbell's soup!

Details and pictures man..... sheesh.  Grin  What brand/model?  Etc   etc...

Oh and congrats on completing your holiday shopping.  I'm sure your oldest will appreciate his gift.

I have a small collection of the Stainless Ruger P series, in 9, 40 and 45.... but have not shot the .40, and not sure I want to get into keeping another caliber stocked up.  I really should research the caliber differences/advantages etc, but I think keeping with the KISS principle, that I am good with stocking 9's and 45's.

Brownells has the trigger bars to lighten up the pull on the Glocks pretty cheap, Glock is fussy about them and will only sell them for the target models and only if you own one. Makes them shoot nice! At the armorer school Glock claimed their tac-lite was designed to prevent the stovepipe issue (some harmonics issue I think they said) and said some other lights can mess up the recoil and cause stovepipes. Practice,,,, tap-(the mag in tight) rack and re-access the situation at the range so when the zombies come it is as automatic as pulling the trigger.

Love the .40, right between the 9mm and the .45, best of both worlds IMHO...

I do hafta draw attention to your wording here though. Don't buy into the media game, unless it's selective fire/full auto, it's not an assault rifle...

My feeling too.

Not that you're "undergunned" with a 9mm (especially with the right ammo) but the .40 also make it possible to double-stack the ammo without making the grip too huge.

That may have been true at one time but not anymore. Many countries now issue the FN-FAL to their regular military forces in semi-auto only configuration and it most definitely is an assault rifle. The idea that an assault rifle has to be select fire or full auto is outmoded. Full auto in a light rifle has been recognized as a waste of ammunition in all but the most skilled of hands.

Besides which, the term that was used in the ban was assault "weapons".

An assault rifle is a selective fire (selectable between semi-auto and fully automatic) rifle (capable of being fired from the shoulder) that uses an intermediate cartridge and a detachable magazine

Yeah I know what wiki say and at one time (when it was standard and desired to equip a force with automatic weapons) it was true. It's just not applicable anymore because the battlefield has changed. So for all intent and purposes an assault rifle can be semi-auto only.

Serk (and Jess) you’re correct sir(s)! My mistake! I know better too! Of course you’re assuming I didn’t actually MEAN precisely what I described, eh?  Cheesy

PAVALKER, MarkT, doubletee (and anyone I missed) I couldn’t agree more. Without apologizes, I’m HUGE .40 caliber fan AND a Glock guy! (There’s two in my safe, right next to me as I type this and another one next to my bed.) I just read that Glock now equips 70% of ALL Police agencies in America. That figure represents only those departments with arresting authority. I suspect it’s even higher if you count ALL criminal justice branches in every form.

MNBill; Good post! I’ve attended their Armory Class twice (slow learner) and what you posted is dead on. I LIKE a little stiffer squeeze though, so I haven't messed with any of mine. It’s what I learned on and am comfortable with and I don't shoot competition with any of the Glocks. So, there's no need to operate on them. Our Department changed out our guns though when we converted from our old wheel guns. Honestly, I can’t remember what ‘pull’ poundage we went to, but I argued at the time it wasn’t significant enough to warrant the expense. Glock ended up supplying all the new internals as part of the deal. . .  so everyone "won." (I guess)
