64 or 65 we were in a combined exercise. Japanese Austrailians Great Britian South Korea and i KNOW i'm fergittin some countries. Anywho we are underway on the U S S Yorktown C V S-10. I'm standing on the flight deck about midship port side looking aft. We had gotten a heads up from the 1 M C that a Japanese F-86 was gonna do a flyby of the Yorktown. And he was gonna come from the stern forward on the port side. Now remember i'm standing on the flight deck. When we got eyeballs on the F-86 approaching we followed it with our eyes. When it went by the ship i looked DOWN into the cockpit to see the pilot doing his thing. All these years later and i still feel it hear it and smell it. A virtual assault on the senses. RIDE SAFE.

Holy chit!   Shocked
Don't know the song, but being a BIG Enya fan, I'm fairly comfortable saying it's not her. It went well with the Video though.
On the No 1 pass, was that guy going supersonic?

I once got tapped to participate in a 3-star change in command ceremony (15 AF/CC) at March AFB.  March (before closure) was known as Tankertown USA, so we got a KC-10 Fly-over.

Three things were noteworthy;

First, some numbnuts forgot to mow the grass on the parade ground, so the marching was less than stellar in tall grass.

Second, the command which starts the ceremony/marching is "Pass in Review"  (but many of us thought we heard "Pass in the Nude" in a loud command voice)

Third, when the KC-10 did the flyover, he was WAY under the lawful minimum altitude... so low the plane had to gain altitude to safely clear the flightline control tower.  The troops loved it and cheered, but the general was not amused, and started a witch hunt to punish the offending pilots.  This had already been anticipated.... both pilot and copilot had it all arranged to retire the following day, so no one lost their head.

But my favorite all time flyover was a huge BUFF with eight roaring, smoking engines.

that's really tough!!  we lived in yuma, az for 2 years which has a u.s. marine base.  i LOVED when they were doing manuevers and did fly overs.  and the airshows were fun, too.  the harriers (sp?) were a neat display.

ALMOST. That vapor donut that forms along the aircraft indicates that you're about to break the barrier but he didn't quite exceed it.

One thing I really miss about working in Westfield is watching the F-15's play all day.

Not as impressive as the jets but funny as all hell (lots of f-bombs but the person sayin them is British so it sounds all cultured).

   Blue Angle was not super sonic, It has to do
something with the water in the air.
