So I go out Christmas shopping, looking at getting a new home computer system and I figure that “best buy” would be the “best” place.  WRONG! This happens to me quite often, so it’s most likely ME.  Here’s what happened;

I go in; start looking at the PC’s and quietly, patiently, wait for the ONE employee in that area finish up with the couple that he’s helping.  The guy is talking to his wife, trying to get her to not get the “big” touch screen system because they’ve got a small desk.  Then they move down to the “tower” units where the guy picks the crap out of ‘em, saying that they’re archaic and obsolete.  This whole time the sales guy stands there and listens to these two argue.  I then quietly tap the sales rep on the shoulder and ask him if he’s got a second I had a question, he says he’ll be there in a bit.  Just after that another sales rep walks up, now there’s two of ‘em listening to this couple babble on about the “size” of the units.  What really blew me away was when the woman says “I just came in here to buy a pair of shoes!”  That was the best one I heard!  I thought that by then the sales rep would have walked away, but nope, he stuck to ‘em!!  Soon after that, the couple walks away, the sales guy walks up to another guy in that same isle and asks him if he needed help, that guy says no, and then the rep walks away!!!  So I’m standing there, looking at the “HUGE” touch screens (that I was interested in) when all of a sudden the same “shoe shopping” couple show up again!!  Then, THAT SAME SALES REP COMES TO HELP THEM!!!

So, I did what I felt was appropriate, put down the four WII video games I was going to buy, and walked out!  Went home and bought the same games for about $20 less, and will have them delivered to my house tax free!!  Now, if I can only buy a new PC online that has what I want!!

Often times price isn’t an issue, I want quality, and good customer service, apparently two things you won’t find at “worst-buy”

The Best Buy staff is terrible (with a few noteworthy exceptions).

My Best Buy story.
I had some salesmen going out of town to a sales training course and they all needed laptops. I went to Best Buy and looked over the laptops and noticed they had some on clearance. Cool. I had a cart full of all the stuff they would need, laptop bags, MS office software, all the crap... So I finally managed to find "help", and I told the kid I want 4 of these laptops. He said "sorry but I can only sell you one" I thought he was joking, he said "you can buy one now, go home and buy the other three on line, and then pick them up here"... and he was serious. I said "these are on clearance, that means you are trying to get rid of them, I'm going to help you with that". He said "if I sell you 4 of these there wouldn't be any left for other customers" Really? You are saving the clearance computers?
I said get a manager. He said it won't help because that is their policy. I said get a manager. Yep, the manager said the same thing, one per customer, in store. I said "look, I have hundreds of dollars of software and accessories her in this cart, and I need 4 laptops to go with it". He gave me the same speech about going back to the office and ordering them on line. I told him I needed them now. He said that won't be a problem, go back and order them and then come back here tonight and pick them up.

I told him to kiss my ass.
I left, went to Sams club and bought everything I needed.

I HATE THAT STUPID ASS STORE!!!!

another time my wife an i went out shopping right before christmass, we had just gotten 8 inches of snow, the roads were AWFUL! but i enjoy rotten roads, gives me a chance to scare the crap out of the wife with the 4 wheel drive!!  cooldude  went to worst-buy, we needed a "VCR" (remember those?) got in the store, and just as usual there were four or five guys sitting around the video games, playing away.  we walked around them to get to the VCR's, looked 'em over, asked the lady from camera's for help (she was walking by) she tells me that it's not her department and that i would have to get one of the guys to help me.  well, since i didn't want to bother them with their killer video game, my wife and i left, went across the street to wally world and bought a new $300 VRC.  the next morning i called and talked to the manager and asked him who their greatest compitition is in the Eau Claire area, he said no one, i said wrong!  i asked him if they were slow the previous night, he said they were then i told him that only an idiot would have been out on the roads that night, or someone that really wanted to buy something!  i then explained what happened the previous night and told him i wouldn't be back.  i hope these guys got their buts chewed, don't really care if the didn't though....

Newegg.com is where I buy all my computer stuff.  I build/fix my own though.  You might be happier with a place that services and backs what they sell in which case Dell ain't bad.

Same here, Newegg is great.  I just ordered a new power supply and case for the kids computer to resolve a few issues with it, and ordered some socking stuffers and some earrings for my wife. Smiley

I try to buy most everything online even from Worst Buy.  I hate going into the electronics big box stores.

Another WB warning - - don't have the Geek Squad come to your house.  We were having a software problem with my daughter's PC which was really a Microsoft problem that updates eventually fixed.  Without my knowledge, my wife made an appointment with the Geeks.  Fortunately, I found out before the appointed date and had her cancel it.  The crooks wanted $300 to check out a $400 PC.  Even then, the Geeks wouldn't be able to fix it because Microsoft techs couldn't fix it.  There was a problem with Bing disabling Google, which my daughter needed to do an online course.

I have nothing good to say about worst buy, the staff sucks, and most electronics are over priced compared to other stores. My son and I go to Comp USA, never have had to hunt down staff to answer a question. Between the 2 of us, bought 4 computers, a couple big screen TV's. They have matched prices a couple times, and honor online deals at the store. But on another note, we run very high end computers, my son runs water cooling on the mother board and on dual video cards, extremely fast system. Quad core processor running at 4.1 GHz, over clocked to 5GHz. Try to buy that stuff at best buy, and they don't have a clue about it.

Years ago, I wanted a 65 inch projection tv.  Went to don't buy and the dude there asked what the distance between the chair and the tv would be.  I told him and he wouldn't sell me a 65 because it would be too big for the room.  I went around a bit with him and then left.  Circuit City next door was extremely happy to sell me the 65 and load it in my truck.  Don't go to don't buy anymore.  Newegg rules!  Build your own puter.  Easy peasy.

I have a best buy right around the corner, convenient.  went a few years ago to buy high end washer and dryer.  had researched it all out and knew what i wanted.  went in, knew they had models i wanted and just wanted to pay and have it delivered.  in the appliance section, i went to the employee in that section told her what i wanted and that i just wanted to pay and arrange delivery.

she told me she was "on break" and i would have to come back in half an hour.  i walked out, went down the street to lowes and had everything taken care of by the time best buy's employee got off her break.   Angry

i don't get that upset because i EXPECT to get lousy customer service 25% - 50% of the time, so when it happens, i don't flip out because it was exactly what i was expecting.   Sad

I love best buy. I know where the store is and theres a World Market right across the parking lot.
Some times I even park in BB's area and go to World Market. BB lost any hope of my money within the first 15 minutes that I graced them with my presence. All these stories ring the same bell.
