Also have an '03 GL1800

Just picked up my '98 Standard, took it for a spin.  Presently a GL1800 owner as well.

-Going to take some getting used to the different geometry of the foot pedals.
- very comfortable, runs strong and fast.
- Rear tire is bad so I didn't push it.  Definitely going "dark side".
- Like the sound of the engine
- Doesn't have the explosive power of the Gl1800 but close.
- brakes seem a little less responsive
- no canceling turn signals, reverse or fuel gauge.  Gotta tell myself it's more retro.

Will continue my further testing if the weather permits.

Thanks

JC

Nice ride.  A bit "primal" if your are accustomed to a Wing, but a great bike.

We trudge on.

Yep they are definitely different personalities.  Had the Valk for 15 years and the Wing for almost 10.  You might notice, the Wing attracts old men in the parking lot - "Yeah, sonny I usedta ride one of those..."  The Valk attracts wimmin and bikers.  "Beautiful Harley, had it long?"  I had a woman argue with me that it was a Harley, "I know a Harley when I see one..."  I use them for different purposes - road trips and grocery getting on the wing, stylin and when I need to adjust attitude, the Valk.
