Are you a comcast.com user?
If so, I have a question.
Somewhere in the setup, there is a TEXT and or a HTML setting.
Where is it, and how do I get to it?
The system I'm working with is my grand daughter and she is in school in Colorado, so I can't just walk in set down and play with her machine.
I have to do it with her on the phone.
So, here is what I'd like to have. 1. Which place do I get started, with her? 2. What panel will come up? 3. What is the next step to locate this little tag? 4. etc, etc, etc. 5. I suspect her setting is TEXT as links are not coming through as a link, just a text link.
I guess what I'm asking for is a walk through to do it.
Thanks for any and all help that will be posted here.
I will post the results at the end,
Thanks again. R J.

RJ... Can you post a little more info on what's not working right? I've read and re-read your post and can't figure out what you're asking. What problem is she experiencing?

I notice I must have got side tracked when writing my request. She will send a link, www.********** and it is not executable. Her mom is a non computer user, and she had trouble doing a copy and paste. Meridith is trying to send her mom links to things she would like for Christmas and mom is having trouble getting there. She forwards the message to me, I copy it and create a usable link for her and then send it back.

da prez, I know they have a help line, but I DO NOT have comcast on my box. She has called them a couple of times and just gets flustered as they talk in circles to her. Anyway that is what she says. I thought about having her bring it back with her for the holiday's, but it is a tower and that is kind of hard to carry on as luggage. Maybe I'll have her take da Greyhound, and then again I think not.

Okay, let's try this again. I think her email has a setting of TEXT. To be able to send links that work in an email, it has to be HTML, anyway it is that way with my gmail account, and also my MCHSI.com. All of her links in email come through as TEXT. So, my question is, Assume I'm in the home panel of email. What link along the top will get me to the TEXT/HTML setting? Once I get there, I think I can figure it out over the phone with her. Thanks, and sorry for the confusion.

Okay, forget all the above. I just called her and talked to her as one dummy to another.
1st, she uses comcast.net via Outlook Express.
So, I told her to unplug the damn thing, take it the tower to the UPS Store for packaging and shipping. To send it to me, I'll finger it out or get her a new email address.
Luckily she has less than 40 email addresses.
Thanks in advance.
PS: I guess it helps to ask the right questions at the git go.....
Anyway, thanks again, and Happy Holiday's to ya'll.

RJ, you could try a remote desktop application http://www.gotoassist.comThirty day free trial You sign up, send her a link, she clicks on it, her desktop comes up on your screen, you can tweak all the settings you need remotely. Cheaper and faster than greyhound. Or I could go by and help, if she is close, for the price of a beer or two Dave

Email text links displayed as clickable hypertext have nothing to do with a/the send method. As long as the link text is structured properly as a viable link -- whether it's http://xyz.nethttp://xyz.com/indexa.htmhttp://xyz.org/indexa.htmlwww.xyz.comwww.xyz.org/indexa.htmwww.xyz.net/indexa.htmlsoandso@wherever.whateverMessage boards, web site form email and email accounts do not nor can they proofread or confirm an actual link or address. They simply check proper structure then display as clickable hypertext. Just as above. it will display as hypertext in the recipients email account as long as the recipients email account preferences are set to html instead of text. Stop the cpu shipment. It's not her cpu, or her programs. Outlook/OutlookExpress send preferences have no control over the recipients hypertext display. Nor do any other send mail methods. It's all about the recipients display settings. For what it's worth: comcast.net email display settings are under 'properties'.

The above statement is what I was looking for. Thanks. I'll call her shortly and see if I can walk her through it. Thanks again DFragn. Thanks again.

RJ, My 'computer head' son uses a program called "logmein." Whenever I have a problem, I turn it on and he fixes it from Ft. Wayne. Here's the link. I don't know if it cost money or if it's something you want/need, but it works great. https://secure.logmein.com/Jerry

I think I have run into the same type problem, RJ. I used to be able to copy & paste a URL into the body of an e-mail and it would show up highligthted and clickable. Now, I have to bring up[ the page, send it to bookmarks and then copy from that file. The receipient can then click and go to it. Maybe you will come up with a solution for us both.
