Just got back from 5 days of wet, cold camping and deer hunting.

Listened to coyotes sing every night, saw one coyote, no deer, a million squirrels and had the time of my life.

Maybe I got issues.  Grin

Depends on what you were doing with all the squirrels.

Yeah. There was time when I never let a legal deer pass by but that was many years and many deer ago. Now, bringing home a deer is one of the least important parts of hunting for me. The comradely of friends and family, the brightness of the stars at night without the lights of a nearby city, and the sounds of the outdoors at night with only canvas to dim them are my favorite parts now. Son Andy having to give me a deer for the freezer is kind of embarrassing though.  Embarrassed

Ha! Sorry if you've seen it before but here is a video my son Joe made in 2006 for a deer camp member who was fighting in the sandbox that year. And, there is a squirrel in it.

Sadly, due to a death and consequent splitting of the family farm we are family only now and most of these guys couldn't come back this year. Till this year, I'd shared the camp with them for around 25 years. They are sadly missed as are the "creek bottoms" I used to predominantly hunt. The part of the property I'm hunting now I haven't hunted in at least 10 years and I'm struggling with it I guess.

Been there... Most trips are, unfortuately, scheduled to fit into our modern lives.  I've had camping trips on great weeks that were sunny and warm, and weeks on what some would call, cold and miserable.  Although i might be disappointed going in...... it's all good once you're there.
Good for you for having the opportunity.. we all have issues... cooldude Cool

Frye, your heart and priorities are in the right place when it comes to hunting.  Of all the years that I have hunted and all the game that I have taken, the most memorable times were a 10 year streach of hunting elk in the Colorado Rockies with a bow and arrow.  One year, one of the group screwed up our magnificent record and actually killed an elk.  I have never been hungry before or after any hunt.  It is the love of being in the wild outdoors with good hunting companions that make for a successful hunt...Jim

For me, besides the Valk, it's getting away for a fishin' trip...  No boss, no cell, no 'puter, nothing but me (and maybe a buddy that feels the same), and the critters...

Sittin', staring at a smoldering campfire, sippin' on a couple of fingers of a 20 year old scotch...  As my buddy Brutis sez 'Chasin' away some clown voices'  Wink

No, you don't have issues.  The wet deer hunt is why  coolsmiley
