I'm on FB and have an account, but heard how hard it is to toast it. So, while I remain on it for now, I saved this link for "just in case". Once they get their claws in ya, it can be complex to part ways.

Go to the page you "liked" and over on the left there should be a place to "unlike" it.

It can be overwhelming. I like a lot of things like Brownell's and stuff like that for shopping but some of them abuse it. I nuke them.

i hate facebook, i only reopened my account 'cause i wanted to be able to email an old friend, and i couldn't get in touch with him any other (known) way.  i proudly have two friends, and that's enough.

i had two old girlfriends from high school try to get in touch with me through facebook, don't need that kinda trouble either!!  (i dumped them for a reason 20+ years ago!!)

Facebook is  Evil

I agree, facepage, facedown, facebook....whatever, is evil!  From all I have heard from friends and family and experienced myself from a distance, I will NEVER have anything to do with it.  Angry Now days, that is the first place a prospective employer looks to see the irresponsible and inappropriate pictures that people post of themselves.

Also I could tell the personal story of a misunderstood post (between a sister, niece and sister-in-law) that has resulted in me no longer having a daughter.  Cry  And the 4 grandkids I'll never see again.   Undecided Cry

I have heard of this same thing happening all the time between long time friends.  Something is posted that is misunderstood and friendships are destroyed forever.

There is absolutely no "good" in social networking!  crazy2  Ok, I'm done.  Lips Sealed

I'm on it. I use it. I enjoy it.

It's just like any other tool...perfectly safe and effective...as long as you use it appropriately.

As to the employer thing...who would want to work for someone that is a big enough douchebag to use a social media site to determine whether they want to hire you?

And not to be insensitive...but if a facebook post breaks up a family...something was seriously wrong to begin with.

Two simple rules for FB:

1.) Keep your friends list to people you know in 3D.
2.) Don't provide them with too much information. Info is power with FB and if you limit what they get you limit their power. This included playing the stupid games like Farmville and Mafia Wars because they require access to your profile.

Actually, make that THREE  rules:

As has been said, it's just a tool, not inherently evil or good...

Keep friends to people you'd actually recognize and say hi to if you saw 'em at the store (that's my rule of thumb).

And, don't post anything on there (or anywhere, for that matter) that you wouldn't want your grandmother to see on the front page of your home town newspaper.

It's ironic

Some of the people I enjoy chatting with the most on FB are people I barely know in real life.

Some of my real best friends make me crindge when they post anything.

I do not play any of the "games" on there.  I decline all that junk.  The only game I like to play, is to over-tip a cute bartender and pretend that she's interested in what I have to say.

Constant aggravation. The lovely stays in contact with the kids and anguishes all night.
She set me up with an account and I saw it once.
Never struck a key. I'd rather watch real housewives barf-a-thon.

Thank you Daniel! That's twice I'm agreeing with you in this thread. I think it's hilarious that folks are in this public forum discussing how they refuse to discuss anything in a public forum with people they don't know!

This kind of internet forum is not really like facebook once you peel back a few onion layers. Facebook does a lot of data-mining and has some other questionable business practices.

That said, I use it a lot, mainly to keep in touch with friends and family. But I'm under no illusions about what they do over there.
