this seems like a great app for i-phone or android.  i have downloaded to my phone but haven't tried it out yet.  retailers are irate and Sen. Olympia Snowe (R-Maine) has taken up their cause.  retailers say "unfair" because amazon does not charge sales tax.  like all of the members on this board i ALWAYS add that tax to my yearend tax returns.

with your phone you either scan the bar code, take a pic, say the name of item or type it in and amazon gives you their price.  i will give it a try in the next day or so.

There's a few of these I've been using for quite some time...

For general merchandise there's also Google Shopper. You can scan a barcode of an item and see what the price of it is elsewhere, both local shops and online.

For electronics, Newegg.com has an app that does the same thing. I get nasty looks, but Fry's (Large electronics store bigger than most Wal Marts for those not familiar) started advertising that they'll match online pricing, so I've used both the Google Shopper app and the Newegg app to quickly and easily price check them several times.

Got them to bring a $300 video card down to $129, a $200 printer down to $99 and a $699 notebook down to $399 using those apps...

Unless there's a free shipping deal going on, I generally consider shipping or sales tax to be a wash (Obviously on low weight high value items that's not the case, but on high weight low value items it's the other way around, and it all evens out long term, IMHO)
