Score: I-70 - 7 / Deer - 0
I was on I-70 today from Columbus to Rt 79 (30 miles) and I counted 7 dead deer. The deer run rampant from rut season continuing to mid winter. Even if the weather could cooperate riding a motorcycle in Ohio is so dangerous..........

My wife's sisters family, consisting of her sister, her brother-in-law and their 5 kids with spouses that all drive and 2 grandkids who drive, so far this year have hit and killed, 15 deer. Sister is a rural mail carrier and had gotten 6 of the deer this year. Last year she got 14.
3 vehicles have been totaled and 2 pickups have been dented and repaired this year. Pickups were all used by her sis on the mail routes. She got a deer on a Friday, banged up the vehicle pretty good and the next Monday she got another one, but this time it was driveable till her other one was repaired.
Make that 16 deer, her sis got another one on the way home from the mail route tonight. Just hung up from talking to her. She said she wasn't hurt but pretty well banged up the front of her Ranger. She said the cattle guard her husband demanded she put on did not help one bit. It just tossed the deer up on the hood and into the windshield. She said it was coming off and not to be put back on.
Guess I'll have to look on the net and see what is available. There has to be something out there to protect the front of her truck.... That thing is her daily bread and butter getter.
Missouri is notorious for deer anytime.
If anyone knows of anything, let me know and please post a link for it. Thanks, RJ.

Heres the link. Input the vehicle at the right side of the page. These guys make most of the police bumpers in the country. $300-$1000 range http://gorhino.comI've got one of these on my personal Jeep( '03 Grd Cherokee) The wife wrapped it around a pole last winter. The body shop guy said its the first one he's been able to tell was a push bumper after an accident like that. I've got the 5000 series, no headlight guards. Here's another option good heavy duty ( read $$$$$$) $1000+ But designed for hitting big critters. input the vehicle on the right side of the page. http://www.arbusa.com/

Thanks guys, I'm diggin into your links. So far only found 1 for her Ranger.
Now if she had an F150, there are several.
Thanks again.

I hit a deer once with a Jeep pickup that had a snowplow bracket attached to a push bar on front. skewered him like an olive in a martini. Yanked him off and shoved him in the ditch. If the blade had been attached I could have cleared the road without even getting out of the truck! Hoser

In south and west Texas all police and most government owned vehicles have grile guards or push bars on them. In Bracketville even the school buses have cow catchers on the front and the horn has a beeper on it so the horn beeps when the buse is in motion.

Can anyone relate their experience and success with deer horns, such as the one available at www.xp3hornet.com. Kinda pricey, but worth it? Steve
