An interesting email I received from my brother this morning thought I'd share
I knew the Japanese were less than anxious to invade the US because Americans were armed, but I didn’t realize how “armed” we actually are.
Interesting numbers.
A blogger added up the deer license sales in just a handful of states and arrived at a striking conclusion: There were over 600,000 hunters this season in the state of Wisconsin. Allow me to restate that number. Over the last several months, Wisconsin's hunters became the eighth largest army in the world. More men under arms than in Iran. More than in France and Germany combined. These men deployed to the woods of a single American state to hunt with firearms, and no one was killed. That number pales in comparison to the 750,000 who hunted the woods of Pennsylvania and Michigan's 700,000 hunters, all of whom have now returned home. Toss in a quarter million hunters in West Virginia and it literally establishes the fact that the hunters of those four states alone would comprise the largest army in the world. The point? America will forever be safe from foreign invasion with that kind of home-grown firepower. Hunting - it's not just a way to fill the freezer. It's a matter of national security. That's why all enemies, foreign and domestic, want to see us disarmed. Food for thought when next we consider gun control.
-------------------------------------------------------------------- I have been told:
When the Swiss Prime Minister was asked why Hitler had not invaded Switzerland during WWII he replied that he had met with Hitler in 1939 and was told that Germany had twice as many soldiers and Swiss had adult men in the country -- what would you do if we invaded you? He replied "I would tell my citizens to each hide behind a rock as the Germans invaded and each of them was to shoot twice"

Yeah pretty much. The AR's ubiquity is reaching Kalashnikov levels (and there are plenty of those here too). We're helped tremendously by the fact that our potential enemies do not have the mobilization and power projection capability that we do.

Was it on this forum somewhere or maybe some other site I was reading from, stating that the last time our guvment was trying to enact some kind of gun control, that gun sales and ammunition sales went through the roof? Now the threat that Olibama is planning a big gun control push if he gets re-elected may make gun sales really hit a high. ???

Private sales. And I do believe there will be a gun grab in the next 5 years. They tried it with "Fast and Furious" and with the "Medical Marihuana" bill here in Az. The wife's stupid kids were all about legal medical weed till i splained them, job limits, gun ownership and a few others cause I was on a roll. Private sales = lack-o-paper trail.

Guns and gun ownership is what separates us from TYRANNY!
An armed public is a warning that not only do we have a military, but those that will fight back even when the military is not present.

No, gun control means taking them away from the law abiding citizens so they can't defend themselves against the bad guys who will always be able to get guns. Thus, making the law abiding, unarmed, dependant on the gov't for their security.

Thus, making the law abiding, unarmed, dependant on the gov't for their security. Pretty sure, he meant that as a joke, G-man. I have a bumper sticker that says what he said. What concerns me more, is the REASON for the 2nd amendment, was to empower us to defend the rest of our freedoms. So in this context, the bad guys aren't the muggers. They are the very people trying to grab our guns so we don't have the physical means to prevent them from trampling the rest of our rights. Eg, Hitler, Stalin, et al, disarmed the populace first. And next, Obama, if he gets another term. Historically, he was one of the worst gun-grabbers in Congress. And now, he's empowered in the White House - once he's a lame duck - it's Katy Bar the Door, your guns are his target. Tell ya what - the gov't can HAVE the contents of my gun cabinet. 240gr. at 3,000fps at a time.

There will be alot more "criminals" when guns are outlawed, armed formerly law abiding people ready to defend their second amendment rights.

Or about hunting, as Clinton tried to spin it. Gun control - and the Second Amendment against gun control - is about disempowering you from protecting your rights against an overzealous government. It's an important distinction.

Why worry? You are well protected.
If my government tries to ban and confiscate private weapons, it'll be the cops who are ordered to take them (it won't be the lefty politicians).
In which case, thou I am generally law and order all the way, they better come with all their arms and equipment..... because they're gong to need them.
This type of spending on rural police forces is (largely) just another example of wasted tax dollars.

Mainly a case of all those "stimulus dollars" being put to "good" use. Spend it or lose it is the govt's idea. And, they spend it.
