And the throttle sleeve too!!!

Came out of work friday and found the end of my right grip smashed to bits  laying next to the bike. Whoever got it smashed the chrome  cap and broke the end off of the throttle tube. Am trying to decide between replacing the stock bits( they work fine for me) or going aftermarket.  Any suggestions?

Stock is way cheaper and works just fine.  I think most after market are larger in diameter and with the Kurys you have many options as to chrome, black and the throttle assists.

Go aftermarket then you have unlimited options and you wont need that specialty plastic sleeve anymore.  You just have to grind open the housing on the throttle side some.

Most of us who use the Kuyrakyn Iso grips, buy the longer 6 1/2 (or 1/4)" grips specific to the Valkyrie (part # 6190), and those do not come with a new throttle sleeve.... you reuse the Honda throttle sleeve.  The shorter universal grips may come with a new sleeve, I don't know.

http://www.kuryakyn.com/Products/3798/ISO-Grips

http://www.kuryakyn.com/documents/installation/6190-21MC-0311.pdf

So if your throttle sleeve is damaged beyond reuse, you will need another one, and may be stuck buying a whole Honda grip kit to get one (I do not know for sure on the Honda grips). But it seems to me if only a little of the sleeve is broken down near the end, it may still work OK with new grips if you ensure no glue gets between the new grips and the handlebar below the sleeve.

The only way to get an OEM throttle sleeve is to buy the OEM grip -- it's not available separately from Honda.  The stock right grip with throttle sleeve is about $30, if I recall correctly.

There are tons of grip options, especially at www.jpcycles.com  Don't limit yourself to those that only fit Valkyries or even those listed for "metric" bikes.  Finding a throttle sleeve is a bit trickier, but those listed for Honda Shadows (Spirit, Ace, Sabre) 750cc and larger work.

I just mounted these because of a similar problem to yours: http://www.jpcycles.com/product/ZZ50014 They come with the throttle sleeve.

good company, too, and i think they come with a sleeve if i'm remembering correctly.

I like my Kury grips and they don't use that threaded part on the end of the sleeve.  I have small hands and the OEM grips still feel too small to me.

I'd use it as an excuse to go with better grips.

Most aftermarket grips turn to crap after a time.  Mostly from sun, rain and sweat.

Stock grips on the other hand are a perfect fit, no additional work required.

I'm not certain where Ricky gets his information.  I have over 150 thousand miles on my Kury grips and they're fine.

I guess perfect fit depends on what you like, but he'd already lost me with his BS statement on "turn to crap".  Wink

The aftermarket grips referenced in the link I posted above are a perfect fit and no additional work was required, i.e., they installed exactly as stock grips are installed.

Probably the same place where you'll find un-paired socks and my apex bit; the outer limits.

Go with what feels and looks good to you.  Personally, I like the Kury grips because they are longer and give you the option of going with the ISO®-Throttle Boss™ or the Contoured ISO®-Throttle Boss which vastly reduces that right arm fatigue on long trips.  Like I said, it's your bike.  Make it like you want it...Jim Smiley

Actually I'm on record as preferring stock grips (I have stock grips on my Valk and a virtually brandy-new pair of iso-grips in the package that I installed and didn't really care for). But I know lots of iso-grip users who like them and have lots of years on them. You're the one making unsubstantiated claims that aftermarket grips "fall apart".  Just admit it; you're talking out of your ass. It's not a big deal because we're used to it.

It's difficult to understand how profanity (and personal attack) is tolerated on this forum, but that, notwithstanding, I can only surmise that:

Cowardly equivocation is surely the most formidable weapon of the impotent eunuchs of which belonging to and referred to as "we're".

To me answering a person's question in a condescending fashion without really providing any useful information is a passive aggressive personal attack.  Being passive aggressive is still a personal attack.

Get whatever you like, but I guarantee you Kury ISO grips will outlast OE (or any full foam) grips, by years.   The sun/weather damage to the foam does not happen to the Kurys.

Mario, I have been considering a set of Sac grips but I read something on another site that questioned whether Sac grips would fit a Valkyrie. Did you need to use a specific model of grip? Any fitment problems? They appear fatter than stock grips which is what I want but I'm curious if a Throttle Rocker will fit.
Thanks for the link and any insight you can offer.

Because the erroneous (and often downright DANGEROUS) "information" you post puts it in perspective. My "personal attacks" and "profanity" (ass is profanity, really??) aren't going to get some poor bastard killed.

I had a set of Kury grips that were pure unadulterated garbage. They left a black smut deposit on my hands the whole time I had them. when the chrome started flaking off, I had had enough. Off they came and I swore I'd never buy another Kury product again. Your mileage may vary.

My absolute favorite grips of all time are these -

http://midwestcyclepro.com/mcp/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=61&products_id=395

They're perfect in every way except one, they don't make a set that fits on the Valk.  :'(

I have a set of ISO'S, yes they do leave a black smuge on your hands when they sweat, however I still like the look and comfort with the boss attached.  I have had them for over 10 years and the chrome is starting to wear thru, can see the copper plate in some area's.

I found that the stock grips bugged my hands even wearing gloves which I do whenever riding. I prefer having the air spaces the Kurys provide. Don't like that Kury doesn't sell the rubber inserts for the grips separately 'cause they do look ratty on my Valk after 9 years. Just MHO.

Wish I could find out who it was, but I start my day at a truck yard, and we have to park outside the fence in the customer area. so unfortunately that leaves it open to a few dozen people that could've doored my bike. What kills me is thats a million dollar hit. missed the mirror, but got the end of my firkin grip.... Angry
