Received the Jan. 2012 issue of Motorcycle Consumer News where they do a performance index of all bikes they've tested over the years. Back when they were tested, the Standard got a 4.5 out of 5 and the Tourer and Interstate got a 4.0 out of 5. Here's the kicker though: when listing the 10 best as of today of all bikes they have tested, the Valk was included in 2 categories. The '97 Standard was tied at #10 with the '08 Suzuki Hayabusa for best rear-wheel torque. The '97 Standard was also listed at #4 on the 10 best 60-0 stops.
Here's the funny thing: The only other Honda bikes listed in the 10 best lists are the CBR1000RR for power to weight ratios, CBR1000RR for top speed, the '04 Rune (#3), the '07 GL1800 (#7) and '04 GL1800A (#9) for rear wheel torque, and finally the VFR800FI Interceptor @ #6 for 60-0 stops.
Wonder if any of Honda's management will realize that the latest model Honda on the Ten Bests list is an '08???
