Where do small companies advertise or look for employees?

I'm signed up with about 9 job boards, some industry specific and all I see are large companies and corporations advertising for people.

I've talked with local employment agencies but they seem to be looking for mainly admin people.

I know it is frustrating Paul, hang in there...

Naoko is still looking, although a possible opportunity has surfaced this week for her.

Employers won't hire until they have to and the revenue is increasing to support it. Small companies have to be particularly careful with not over burdening cash flow.  Undecided

I think signs of improvement are out there. Time will fix this, not much else.  Lips Sealed

On a brighter note, Britman's Memorial Day ride is just 2 weeks off!  cooldude

So Paul, what is it that you do? I have some family on the north side of Atlanta. Isn't that where you live? I've never worked in the fields you mentioned so I'm clueless. Although I can build a house.

Missed you at Cheaha. If I can make it I would like to do the Memorial Weekend ride. I may need a map though.

I work for a small company and do most of the hiring. In our case, it's usually by referrals. Networking is key...who you know and who they know. Best of luck to you!

My wife and a friend started a recruiting firm. Go to www.recruitingKoncepts.com and check out the positions they have there.  Go to the career page and leave your resume under General Profile posting. Also drop her a line at teresa@recruitingkoncepts.com after you have posted your resume so she can review it & contact you. Good luck....Wegs

Britman, Most companies post internal these days, to apply/promote from within. Then they move to referrals, your best bet is getting the word out, networking, e-mailing old contacts, build a network list, touch base with these folks periodicly. Google the companies your specificly interested in and visit THEIR web-sites directly, eliminate the middle man. Good luck! I've been laid off and out of work since January, the wife and I both got it the same day!!! She has since landed a good job, although it requires travel. Hope this advice pays off for you, hasn't for me Sad I have the gift of time now, one thing I never had before. I get up at 3:00am, job search until sunrise then ride. I've been able to do allot of exploring.

Paul, another good place for ALL the government jobs on bases is  http://www.usajobs.gov/

If you go there, put your resume in, as bases get civil service openings...they go to that site to try and fill them. the government/military is OFTEN looking for contract folks/asquisition folks with YOUR background. In fact, i'm pretty sure i JUST saw a listing here at Gunter AFB (Montgomery, AL) looking for your skills for a GS-12 job. With Civil Service, once you get past the probation period (anywhere from 90 days to one year)....it takes "an act of congress" or you killing someone...practically....to lose your job. Bottom line, once you get in civil service.....you are pretty much set........

anyway, our office is listing 4 GS-12 jobs....one of which is acquisition type stuff....right up YOUR "alley"..........

Man... send resume's to ANYONE that you think you can work for.  Don't wait for them to LOOK.  If they are THINKING about hiring... and your resume' crosses their desk, you get looked at without competition.  Plus it shows you as a go-getter.

Don't wait.

Shot-gun the resume's.

Hey RedValk. I forgot to tell you this.

What a cluster f....

Typical Gubmint procedure.

Fill out one application to then find out you have to fill out another one on a completely different web site using exactly the same information. This second web site asks for the VIN or Job Announcement Number from the first web site .

There is a Job Announcement Number associated with the USAJOBS.gov listing but it's too long. AFPC244779GS-1102-12/12CO

The second web site will only accept AFPC244779 and this gets rejected. Ha-Ha  tickedoff I've also tried entering various parts of the Job Announcement Number. That don't work either. Ha-bloody-Ha-ha.  tickedoff  tickedoff  tickedoff  tickedoff  tickedoff  tickedoff  tickedoff  tickedoff  tickedoff  tickedoff

Well I tried. Guess I just don't have the right mind set to work for the Gubmint.

I can't even get in touch with soemone to hlep unless I've filled out the second web site info. Bunch of moronic tacos.

Thanks for the suggestion.

Sorry.......

but if you can get in the system...once in....it can get your foot in the door for a lot of jobs.........good paying ones at that. But, it is the government we're talking about....so.....you have to deal with the crap to get the goods.
