When I had my 98 Standard Valkyrie on the dyno last week the numbers came out Max Power 90.56 and Max Torque 93.99.  My bike has stock jets, a K & N air filter had the piggies cut and a few holes drilled in the baffles.  While I thought that 90 hp was pretty good I've done some searching on this board and been seeing 100 + hp figures.  My bike accelerates well with no engine management problems, so I wonder just where it falls on the Valkyrie hp scale.

I'd really like to see some dyno figures and power curves if anyone can post them, which will give me an idea of how my bike falls on the power scale.

Thanks

OK, Stan.  Here's one, normal for stock is 90 to 100, plus there is a lot of varience in Dyno's, due to many different conditions, such as weather, operators and such.

If's yours is a California model it will be the lower hp. The California model to meet their specs used different carbs.

Will the ECT mod, I/S ICU and I/S carb spring swap result in any horse power gains?

Throttle response feels quicker, acceleration feels stronger, but I can't say if max torque and horsepower would show an increase. If I can control my right wrist I am seeing a 2 or 3 mpg increase, so it seems to me that there must be more power.

all bikes all yrs use the same carbs, '97 just had different part #s, honda and others do this all of the time esp for first yr models.
calif. bikes do have different cam shafts than 49 state bikes. specs indicate less power but better mpg from calif cams

all the same components just different part #s, all the jets are the same. there are no special '97 needles that make an additional 10 extra HP. all yr carbs have the same size venturi/bore size.

Yea, I check it every year just to keep an eye on it.  I try to test right after some sort of
noisy HD tests just to make him feel bad. They announce the figures after every run.  Cheesy  I really shouldn't do that I suppose, but I can't resist.  Roll Eyes  Hoser

My 97 needles had different #'s than the one's on a 98 we worled on, and there was a noticeable difference in the tips on them.

Don't know about 97's making 10 Hp more but they are richer than the later needles.
A manual I have lists J6KG as 97 needles and J6KJ after 97, this is a US manual.
My Australia and some parts of the world manual lists only J6KB for Australia and J6KF for Switzerland.
I have a set of J6KG in my bike. They are around .0005" thinner than the J6KB that came in the bike.
Would like to get the measurements of a set of J6KJ to see what the differences are.
Have the measurements from J6KG and J6KB Honda needles and from Factory Pro and Cobra if anyone is interested.
Cheers Steve

I found this, the blue line is a stock 99 I/S, the red one with a Viking exhaust and jet kit

And these

and this, Viper claim that a 2000 Valk will go from red line to blue line without rejetting, with one of their Stage 1 exhausts

Here's one of a 1500 SE Goldwing, with the exhaust being played with (to no great effect apparently)

Here's a 2009 HD Roadglide.....wow

And this is a 2008 Wing GL1800
