I'm wondering if anyone knows where I can get hard bags for my '99 Valkyrie.  Anyone?  Anyone selling used hard bags?  anyone know of any Tourer hard bags?

Many have used the Tsukayu Strong (or Jumbo Strong) bags for Valkyrie.

RTaz; those are hinged on the outside, right? Any Idea how they would work on an IS with the trunk? Could they be converted to come off like the IS bag lids?

I've been thinking about getting larger capacity bags (any idea on capacity in liters?) and the built in lighting makes these attractive. I know selling my bags would more than pay for anything out there, including painting.

I have 2 or 3 sets, depending on the condition will depend on the price. Send me a private email or call and we can discuss it.

the bags are nowhere near the quality of the stock bags...the only reason I went with the Mutazu bag was the price. They do open from the inside and I don't think that can change. They also offer other style bags on their website.

That would have been me.  That's my red and white in the pictures.  The cost to redo the old goldwing's bags was going to be more than just buying the bags that are in the pictures.  I am happy with them.  Like RTaz said they are not as quality of a bag as stock but I can't complain for the price.

National Cycle CruiserLiner hardbags.
Bought them in like new condition for $500 & bought the chrome mounts for $120 or so. Not as roomy as OEM bags but they are lockable & don't leak.
Nothing beats OEM hardbags especially the bag guard system Honda built in to prevent "tip over" damage.  cooldude

OOOPS sorry guys  ???I also was going to fab up a set of Bates bags from a 79 Goldwing (I thought RTaz posted some pics of it a while back) but it turned into too much of a pain and the cost was higher than expected so I just went with the mutazu bags.

Hey Jess,

The Tsukayu Strong bags look like they mount to the seat or fender  Did you see that picture?

I'm not Jess, but I have those bags. The Tsukayu Strong bags actually mount to very heavy, nicely chromed brackets which bolt up to your frame rail. If you go this route, read directions twice and drill holes once.
(I like mine mounted lower) looks better and follows the fender line perfectly Wink

Thanks !!  As was mentioned earlier, you'll need to take careful measurements as the Tsukayu bags have NO mounting holes .... you must make your own !! When I mounted mine, I sat the bags up on some car ramps and used pieces of wood to get them at the height I wanted and took LOTS and LOTS of measurements.

Tsukayu recommends 1" of clearance between the bags and the exhaust. I have a Hitch Doc hitch mounted on my bike and found that in order to open the bags, and clear the riders seat (Mustang), and have good leaning clearance (foot pegs hit first) I had to have 1 1/4" between the bags and the exhaust.

And because I'm kinda anal on making things look right I made a virtual box out of some scrap plywood to make my measurements on the bags so they end up the same for both sides.

The other thing I did was have a machinist make some 1/4" aluminum plates for better support behind the bags and used big fender washers on the inside. Also put a piece of 1/16" neoprene rubber between aluminum support and the bags.

The tops of the bags are lower than the top of the fender by over an inch.

Thanks for the compliment but really, I've already done all the grunt work. If you like those bags and wanted to position them the same as I did I could easily give you the dimensions on where to drill the holes in the bags and you're good to go. You would have to drill four holes in each bag and then bolt it up .... pretty simple !!

The hardest part for you would be dealing with the fender strut bolts and that would be the case for what ever what kind of bags you bought. As long as you do one bolt at a time, you'll be OK.

Also, if you don't have access to a machinist for the aluminum backup plate (which I also have dimensions) you could substitute some fender washers instead or just use the mounting brackets as is. The bags come with all the necessary hardware.

Yeah that's what my Dad (RTaz) and I thought too.  They were economical and look like they should be on the bike to begin with.  They are a little wide (11 inches) but for the fat girl they are just right, I would not put these bags on  v-twin though in my opinion they would be too wide.
