Some are aware of this, and some are not, but following my bout with pneumonia the end of September and being off work for 3 weeks, I returned to work only to find that they "had figured out how to do things without me" and I no longer had a job.  I had been with this company for 12 years, and needless to say, it was quite a shock and totally unexpected!  After going home and filing for my unemployment (something I had never had to do before in my life) I moped around for a few days feeling sorry for myself, etc., and then I decided that was doing me no good.  So, I opted to make things happen for myself!!!

You all know how much I LOVE to cook, and this situation gave me the opportunity to persue a dream I have had for quite some time.  I went to the library, checked out a few books, and began doing some research, etc.  I then signed up for a culinary class and set things in motion.  My son developed my logo, designed some business cards for me and I was off and running!  Within a couple weeks, I had 2 events scheduled and I was on my way!  I catered a Customer Appreciation Day at a bank and then I catered a Thanksgiving Dinner for 165 at an assisted living center ( the day after I did Thanksgiving Dinner at church for 236)!  In addition to that, I made and sold some pies for a few people for Thanksgiving.

The month of December brought a couple more events for me, and I was also able to do many, many Christmas Goodie Trays and sell them.  Anyway, with all of that being said, I have started my own catering business and the name of it is Motomama's Munchies.  I am thrilled and thoroughly enjoying myself in this new endeavor.  I already have a few events lined up for January!  YEAH!

I am still working on the cookbook, and eventually, it will be finished and you all will be the first ones to know!  Smiley

2012 will be a much better year for me and I look forward to what comes my way!!!  With the support of my family and friends, I know I can make a success of this endeavor!

I hope you all had a very Merry Christmas and I want to wish you all a happy and prosperous New Year!

Congratulations young lady.   cooldude

There's nothing like good news at the holidays.

Being your own boss and keeping books is a challenge, but few of us get to be employed at something  we actually have a passion for.  Best of luck in your new endeavor.

Hell, I know she can make it.  The three amigos from TEXAS paid a Hundred Dollars for a strawberry pie at IZXI!  She raises over a thousand dollars for the local charity auctioning off her pies every year at Inzane.

What a turn of events!  Good luck in your new venture, Lori.  There are very few people in this world who get to do what they want to do for an income.

I've never had the pleasure to indulge in any of your culinary masterpieces but, hopefully, that will change.  Way to Go! cooldude

Who'd ever thunk it, Motomama's MERRY Munchies. I just had to add that and you know why!

Lori, You will find that working for yourself may be more strenious in many ways, but it is much more fulfilling in many ways also.  I know that with your personality and drive, you will make the new venture a success.  Here is wishing you all the best...Jim  Smiley

Lori, I'm glad to hear you're getting to do what you love...cook. And making a business of it as well makes all the effort seem more worthwhile. Often it takes that unexpected nudge to force us out of one situation into something more to our liking, which we might not be aware of. It happened to me many years ago and I'm so thankful, but at the time I was feeling the same as you after many years with one company. Keep us posted as to your successes (and Carl's excesses). We may not even recognize him by July.  2funny

The best to you on your new venture, we'll all be watching with interest. Just let us know when you plan to incorporate and go public.  Wink
