Fordmano did something similar in his Multipoint upgrades thread.

It would be nice. More light, less power used. I'll be keeping an eye on this...

Sugarbear,  For the IS, you will need a dual light system. Buy a car system with h-4 bulbs. More light, less curant draw, less heat. Works for me! Got mine from V V M E website. Easy install.         R J Miles

not necessary, but will work.  I went to my local Advance Auto, and bought two 55 watt bulbs. ("silver-something" I think) (Wally-World also sells them...standard automobile lights with three straight prongs, NOT the angled ones) Also went on Ebay and bought the $12.00 adapter rings. Snipped off the ears on the bulbs with pliers (very easy to do), inserted the adapter rings and popped in the bulbs. Voila!! Perfect bright lights and way cheaper.  I'd suggest you take a look in "shop talk" on this fourm to get a good idea of how the rubber boots come off/on.  It really helped me. Ive got a 2000IS.  Peace

Thanks Phredvalk,

yep I installed the HID kit with dual headlight setup, I really liked the amount of overall light and the slight color off of pure white was fine by me. Although just a couple weeks ago one of the ballasts gave out and I have not had a chance to take care of that so I just stuck one of my old PIAA extreme white bulbs on that side till I can pull it fully apart and figure out what happened to the ballast and see if I can just buy a ballast alone I tested the bulb on the other ballast and the bulb is still good.

Here is the thread PhredValk speaks of.

Hope what I have done is of some help.

A word of caution here.

HID bulbs are not set up to work with incandescent bulb reflectors so the illuminated field may not be what you would think to expect.

The low beams or the high beams will be a separate issue and some HID setups do not encompass both beams.

Some states have laws regulating the use of these type headlights in non HID equipped systems.

I am not passing judgement on HID or the use of these, only to bring up a few of the issues regarding them.

I have 6000 HID'd on my interstate. Ya high beams do not work, but with this light high beams are not needed. And yes I get allot of crap from people about them. Flashing. But the point is to be seen.
And another point is that I like them. Ride safe and be seen.

As noted the set I have "DOES" have high and low beams, with that said there is some wide separation in the aim point on the two beams.  When the low beam is pointed at the perfect height then the high beam is a tad too high but not really bad for me since I have the HID fog beams  in my radiator pods also so they fill in the really close to mid range area then when the high is turned on there is a dark gap between them.

So I just adjusted the lows a bit lower than I really think is optimal and that moves the High beams down to a useable setting.

The IS lights are excellent.  I ride very long rides, pushing 1000 mi per day, all times of the year, all conditions, and don't see the need .  Two HID's as on the IS will blind oncoming traffic and is excessive.  If you really want more light, get some higher wattage H4 bulbs here
http://store.candlepower.com/h4hb29003bulbs.html
Or add driving lights.
If I had a Standard with one light, I might consider HID, but never for the IS.  Two is TOO MUCH!  Be kind to your fellow man and just don't do it.

i got my HID's for my I/S on Ebay. The seller is HID4U.
Kits are $32 with free shipping.

http://www.ebay.com/itm/HID-Xenon-kit-9006-9007-H4-HB5-3000K-5000K-6000K-8000K-/230519298399?pt=Motors_Car_Truck_Parts_Accessories&vxp=mtr&hash=item35ac05595f

Cheaper and much brighter than the Silverstars.

No Hi-beam though
