My son just broke the news to me that he blew up the engine on his '05 Suzuki M50.

I found one on ebay for $1350.  Damn, that seems like a lot of money for a used engine off of a wreck!

I've consulted the Volusia forum and while some of the posts agree about the price being too high, they haven't pointed to another bike junk yard that has one.

Anybody have any ideas about somewhere I can look for a Suzuki engine?

I've got an XR 70 for half that price. My oldest just took over my CRF 230 and the youngest is moving up to to XR100. I'm planning a fishing trip to LA soon. Shoot me a message if interested.

Thanks,
Randy

Have you considered Ebay?
There are presently a few engines for sale at $700.00 - $800.00, and also a few complete bikes!  Smiley

I think it would be quite an adjustment going from an M50 to an XR70.

From what I understand, the only ones that will fit without modification are '05, 06 and 07 M50 motors.  I only saw 1 motor listed for $1350 plus shipping.

If you find another one please shoot me the URL.

Couldn't find your post on the Volusia forum.

I got a motor for my Vol from Pinwall cycle for $800.00 + shipping. It only had 5000 miles on it and it runs great!  Cool

Wouldn't a C50 work?
I thought a C50 and M50 were the same from the head bearings back, except for the the tank, and fenders.

I do know the rear wheel is a direct replacement.
The motor does look the same as my old '05C50.

That's where I was looking, ebay.  I did find one, '05 M50, for $700 + shipping.

I would be afraid to use anything but a injected M50 engine. ('05-'07)

My post on the Volusia website was under the thread from someone else, "will an 04' engine fit an '05."

Since I started looking, my son said it would be in the spring before he can get the money together and have the time to work on the project.

Thanks for your response.

Hey, I wasn't sure when the M50 came out (I know the C50 was in '05) so I looked it up on wikipedia and there are some interesting facts you may want to look at.

For one it says the M50 '05-'09 has a different engine than the C50 but in '10 they use the same engine.  It does say the older M50 engines have a different bearing design.  Maybe that is part of your sons problem why the engine failed.

It also states the C50 and M50 uses the same frame. To me that is saying a C50 should fit.

I agree with you about using a FI engine, to me they just run better.

Good luck with this venture.

'05 is when they changed the name "Volusia" to C50 and when the M50 became fuel injected.  I hope you're correct when you say that an '05 C50 engine will fit in a '05 M50.  There is a man on the Volusia board that has a C50 motor for sell.

I had a '03 Volusia prior to owning my Valkyrie.  I ran the Hell out of it with never a problem, It was a good bike.
