Car in question is a 1994 Olds with the 3.8 engine and the 4 speed automatic with overdrive and 186612 miles showing on the speedometer. The problem is this-whether the control puts all the heat on the floor or out of the dash vents only or floor and dash vents together i get out of the floor vent heat on drivers side and very cold on passenger side. When using the dash vents and floor vents together floor is the same and dash vents alternate far left drivers vent heat next drivers vent cold far left passenger vent heat passenger vent by door cold. In defroster mode heat out of both sides. My local mechanic had the dash out last year and found nada zip nothing-but when he put it all back together it all worked good up until our first cold spell here bout 3 weeks ago. He didn't charge me because he has a lot of other G M products here in town with similar problems. Anyone here had/have a similar problem and did it get fixed/repaired and if yes HOW?? T I A for any and all assistance. Got the phatt ghurl on the lift waiting on parts may as well have a look see at the cage. RIDE SAFE.

We had a similar problem with our 91 Cutless Sierra...vents were random, eventually progressed to where the heat/air was random (sometimes would blow full heat with the air on/vice versa)
Turns out the vents and such were electrically operated via the computer and the computer housing was dying...the main computer is a chip (brains) inserted in a housing that has larger pots/relays/etc in it. That part was dying. Wasn't too expensive, but you have to use your old chip (chips VERY expensive).

Mine did the same thing on a Buick Park Ave 3.8 ...Look on the fire wall near the brake master . I'd be willing to bet you have a hose nipple with no hose on it. Look around the back side of the engine for the hose...Hook it back up to the nipple

Count your blessings. My 97 Ford F 150 has no heat at all. 18 degrees here this A.M. I can bundle up for the cold, but it's a pain to have to continually scrape the frost off the inside of the windshield while driving.
