I thought of this poll as I was reading the drinking and driving or riding thread and was curious about the age and weather it relates to drinking and riding. Just seemed as I read the answers, maybe the younger crowd did drink and drive or ride more than the older crowd? So lets see.  cooldude

Interesting poll.  Can't wait to see the final tally.

For purposes of this poll, define "drinking and riding".

1 beer with dinner and riding 3 hours later?

Or having 3+ drinks and hopping right on the bike, or some personal point of perception in between?

(Original quote removed.)

I think Serk asked a fair question. I didn't see it as disrespectful to westernbiker.
The question was "do you drink and ride," not "do you drink." For the record, though I drink very little, I'm not a teetotaler. If I had a beer with dinner, I'd have no problem hopping the bike 3 hours later. And that's not drinking and riding. There would be no measurable alcohol three hours after a single beer. I don't drink while on a ride, not even one beer.
But is westernbiker asking asking if we simply stay within the legal limit, or some other standard. A clear definition would make the answers more consistent.

I'm with you BigGuy. Serk's was a fair question. There would need to be more information included to make the poll meaningful.

I clicked my age and no, but like others, it seems I was confused.  If we have been riding for several hours, and we stop for lunch, and there is going to be say an hour to hour and a half break, then yeah, i will have A beer while waiting for the food.  I do not get on a poker run and race from point to point to have a beer or 3 at every one.  To me there is a big difference.

Another interesting thing about this poll is how many people 51 to 60 ride a Valkyrie.  I fit into that one too..........

Sorry, I was not on line. I guess I meant it as if you drink at all and ride then you would be a YES. Here in Az. this is a NO TOLORANCE state. Yes .08 is what they consider drunk but if you blow a .03 here in Az. they can arrest you on DUI. They say because they don't know if you are on your way down or your way up on the drunk scale. If you are pulled over on your way up and blow a .03 and they let you go and half an hour down the road you are .08 and higher then someone (the officer) would be in trouble. So............If any booze is detected while you are riding then you are drinking and riding, pretty simple and you would be a YES!
Did that clear it up for ya'll?

I guess I answered too soon and should have read the whole thread.  I answered "31-40, no".  Having a few drinks at a bar or party or whatever and riding home is drinking and riding.  I don't consider 1 beer with dinner over a period of time to be drinking and riding.  But since westernbiker does, and it is his thread, I should have answered "yes" I guess.

It's not that I consider one beer with dinner drinking and driving it is what the LEO's and the law here in Az. consider drinking and driving, please don't twist my words. Some people needed clarification as to what drinking and driving is, I tried to some it up by defining what the Az. law is.

Sorry, I was not on line. I guess I meant it as if you drink at all and ride then you would be a YES.
But then with this explanation: I drank a couple of beers last Friday at home and I rode my bike to work today so I would be a YES.

So............If any booze is detected while you are riding then you are drinking and riding, pretty simple and you would be a YES!

Just jerkin yer chain here.  I do understand what you're after but as usual there will be some that nit-pic anything, right?

Doesn't matter to me as I fall in the 51-60 YES catagory. I'm the one that will get a beer at every stop on a poker run.

Shoot, when you were born and raised 15 miles from the Shiner brewery it's a part of life!

I wasn't trying to twist your words.  I was just clarifying that I answered before I read the thread and should have answered differently according to your clarification.  That's all.

before I was a truck driver, going out for lunch and some chatting, stretching legs and other time elapsed before riding off.  yeah i'd have a beer.

NOW however no.  the legal limit for commercial driver is .04 AND applies full time no matter what you are driving.  not worth the risk to my livelyhood.

Unless it has changed in the last year or so, it is .04 to lose your CDL, no matter what vehicle you were in when caught.  There is also a regulation that says you may have NO alcohol level when in a Commercial vehicle.  However, violations of that are seldom enforced, and they only put you out of service, not a violation, as long as you are under the .04.

Did you know that back in the days when you could drink 3.2 beer in Kansas at 18, it was also legal to drink it while driving? It wasn't considered liquor. Strong beer and liquor was  sold in retail liquor stores only, and you had to be 21 to buy and drink it.  You could get plenty drunk on 3.2 beer, believe me.  Grin  Hoser  2funny  uglystupid2

Yea we had that 3.2 here in Ohio back in the 60s when I was in High School. We used to skip school and have a couple at lunch, got just as buzzed as today drinking Miller Lite. Got pulled over by LEO a few times with 5 or 6 of us in the car and never were questioned about drinking. MADD sure changed things

I have a CDL, therefore .04 is my limit.
I used up the ratio of "in my favor" years ago so I only swig at home.
Oddly, I become popular and get invited to alot of parties around the holidays.
Glad thats over.
