I saw this post more about flaunting faith in God to gain political points. This is what the bible says about a similar situation.
Matthew 6:5-6: "And when thou prayest, thou shalt not be as the hypocrites are: for they love to pray standing in the synagogues and in the corners of the streets, that they may be seen of men....when thou prayest, enter into thy closet and when thou has shut thy door, pray to thy Father which is in secret...."
God, and your relationship with him has no place in politics. IMO
Spot on... If God actually TOLD these folks to run, then, a) God is a pretty poor adviser, for in retrospect, they couldn't win, God would have already known this, and why not save the candidates (and the rest of us) from the ramblings of those who cannot win. b) I think one really needs to watch out for people that think God is telling them things directly, such as "run for President". And if it is like Thespian says... reaching inward for counsel and direction, through prayer, then why the grandstanding? Either way, these candidates are disingenuous and I give them a wide berth simply because God is telling them what to do. I'll take a rational human being making her/his own decisions, any day of the week.

I think Eagle was pretty clearly pointing out that a minimum of two of those people were claiming God's authority who didn't have it. (I would calculate all three, but that's me not a message from God.) And yes they were claiming God's authority. Let's not get mealy-mouthed about what that means. They said God wanted them in the White house, and collected money on that basis. (And yes, they did say, intimate, suggest, that. I'm not going to get into a quoting debate. Anybody trying to re-interpret all of those God references as something else is being disingenuous.) If they did not receive that command from God, they were committing blasphemy. That is a far more egregious sin than the simple use of foul language western religion has turned it into. That should be a matter of great concern for those wanting to follow God. Tragically, I don't see it from the religious right. What I do hear from the far right is references to Psalm 109:8. May his days be few; may another take his place of leadership. Unless we're to take this completely out of context, we're also stuck with the following verse, Psalm 109:9. May his children be fatherless and his wife a widow. Sorry. I don't believe that message comes from God as applying to The President of the United States of America.

Alph where do you get this from ? I understand that there are many different beliefs and ideas about who and what God is. But as far as I know only Jesus Christ was born of a virgin, crucified on a cross and ressurrected three days later. BTW, 1. Jesus said that he was the "Son of God" not God. 2. And man picked December 25th as the date to celebrate his birth (and most Christians do realize that the date is not exact). 3. The three kings (wise men) were not present at His birth, they showed up when he was about 2 yrs old.

God Told me to tell you to shut up and quit bad mouthing his people.
Just because God told these people to run, does not mean they will win.
They simply felt the leading of God's spirit to run, they did what was required of them.
God is not Democrat or Republican.
He is Lord and Master of all.
Every knee shall bow, every toungue will confess that his only begotten son is the Christ.
That includes every person that has ever lived or will ever live shall know the truth at that point.
All this bickering will cease at that point.
Who do you say Jesus is,, is the only question required of us on this earth, while we still live.

Was God being a jokester here? 2. God must be a funny guy/gal/it?
3. I'm beginning to question God's ability to pick viable candidates, but that's another story.
4. God seems to be betting on the wrong horses.
If your intent was as you say, to point out the "Follies" of the candidates then the above statements were unnecessary. It's a MORMON that got top draw. This may come as a surprise to you but Mormons are Christians too.

They follow Christ and that is good enough.
Even though they have some weird beliefs, but all churches do.
Most Mormons self-identify as Christian, though some of their beliefs differ from mainstream Christianity. Mormons believe in the Bible, as well as other books of scripture, such as the Book of Mormon. They have a unique view of cosmology, and believe that all people are spirit-children of God. Mormons believe that returning to God requires following the example of Jesus Christ, and accepting his atonement through specific ordinances such as baptism. They believe the authority to perform these ordinances was restored through Joseph Smith, and that their church is guided by living prophets and apostles. Central to Mormon faith is the belief that God speaks to his children and answers their prayers.

Membership in any religion does not make the member a Christian. Any member of any religion can have a personal relationship with Jesus Christ (and therefore be a Christian). All that the individual must have is a scriptual understanding of who Christ is, that he IS God. Repent of their sin, and a committment to follow his word because he is Lord and Savior. And the understanding that, that alone (no other accomplishment) is what is needed for Salvation
I believe a strict Mormon does not hold to the idea that Christ IS God. That doesnt mean there cant be many that proclaim to be Mormon that do. Its the all important question as to wether or not someone is a Christian or........Not

I know some Protestants that don't accept Catholics as Christians either. However, from the last link that you posted: No one believes more fundamentally that He was the Son of God, that He died for the sins of mankind, that He rose from the grave, and that He is the living resurrected Son of the living Father.
President Gordon B. Hinckley
[/i][/b] Mormons have many beliefs and practices that are far from the mainstream, but as long as their core beliefs are as stated above then they are Christians.

Alpha... Not bashing you here, but the Zeitgeist movies are nothing more than propoganda from a transhumanism cult that has conned countless people out of their hard earned money for decades with promises of a utopian society. 5 minutes of googling would show you that what the movie claims about those other deities/religions regarding their similarity to Christ and Christianity is wrong. They made it up. First clue should've been their claim of Son=Sun... The Son (Sun) is risen...yada, yada, yada... Aside from the fact that these two words only sound the same in English, when the movie makes the reference to "risen", it is referring to the third day after the Winter Solstice (Dec. 21/22), which would be Dec. 24/25 AKA the birth of Christ. In the Bible, "He is risen" is referring to Christ's resurrection on the third day after his death AKA Easter. Not only do the filmmakers seem to not know the difference between Easter and Christmas, they also lie and say that time of daylight in a day doesn't begin to lengthen until the third day after the solstice in an attempt back up their claim that Jesus is a sun god. These are just a few glaring examples of the lies/mistakes the film makes in its Robert-Tilton-style attempt to deceive the gullible out of their cash. My fat ass hasn't been in a pew in nearly 20 years, so I don't have an agenda. Just pointing out the obvious.

I'm relatively new here so I have no dog in this fight with respect to the various personalities with a history on the board.
With that said, I'm with the crowd that finds it off-putting at the very least when politicians (or non-politicians for that matter) make a big production of how religious they are.
In fact, as far as I can remember, it seems everyone I've ever run across in private or professional life who made a big public show of being religious, turned out to be a snake. I figure the same probably holds true for politicians.
When it comes to our elected representatives, what I would like to hear from them is "Yes, I am a person of faith but as an elected leader what is more important than what church I attend or how many times I pray each day and so forth, is that as a leader I will follow the rule of law and protect your God given rights and your rights as citizens set forth in our Constitution."

you and i have seen a lot of the same people, or there just might be something about those type of people that make them believe they can do one thing in public, just to make themselves look good. dependand on which way the polls are blowing that is!!! i would say the same thing about "Tim Teabow", but that's a different subject!!

I already posted what I believe as far as religion(s) vs Christianity......Its all about Who Christ is and what he is to you. However, This may seem odd, but I dont believe it matters if the President is a real Christian, thinks he/she is...Is a Mormon or a Jew (and there are saved Jews) or anything else. What matters is is that person willing to lead the country in the spirit of the founders as in regard to faith. As long as whater "religion" the president is, he/she doesnt restrict or mandate any type of religious practice. Not all of the founders were "southern Baptists: (just an example dont get all technical with me) But they all believed we should be free to worship God as we see him.....As long as Romney believes that, I really dont think it matters if he is a Christian by what my Bible says or what his Mormon Bible says

Alph, I can understand why you may feel that Tim Tebow the quarterback is highly overrated. I can't understand your DISDAIN for Tim Tebow the person. Time will tell but right now he seems to be the "REAL DEAL". Republicans have courted the "Christian" vote ever since the "Religious Right" was credited for Ronald Reagan's landslide victory in 1980. As far as politicians go............ I haven't met one yet that I'd trust as far as I could throw him. Remember Obama's "Lipstick on a pig" remark ? As far as I'm concerned most politicians regardless of their party affiliation are just pigs wearing lipstick.

As far as Tim Tebow goes, I'd like to point out one thing - he isn't doing anything more than he ever did. He acted and did the same things when playing for Florida. The only difference is that he wasn't in the national spotlight near as much as he is now. He hasn't just jumped out since being drafted and said look at me. It's the MEDIA who is thowing all the spotlights on him and causing all the ruckus about his Christianity. That causes those who have a problem with religion to have a problem with him. All I am trying to say is that if you don't like how Tim lives his religion, don't have a problem with him, have a problem with the MEDIA that is focusing all their attention on it.

I figure the same probably holds true for politicians. The Bible talks about those very people. The point has been made here SEVERAL times.... "Christians" and "religious people" are sometimes two very different (opposite?) groups.

This post is interesting but I have a problem with Eagle making the point because the intent is to turn people away from following the Lord and his last statement says it all. quote I'll take a rational human being making her/his own decisions, any day of the week. I like the fact that men hearing from God cannot make a rational decision according to him. Just because they all believed that God told them to run or that they are grandstanding Eagle assumes that none and no one hears from God and therefore are delusional. Which we dont know if they did or didn't hear from God and the statement is based on the assumption that he knows how God thinks and has the whole game plan. Again just human presumption and foolishness without true discernment. If they did grandstand without the Lord telling them to then maybe thats why they aren't on top at this point. We dont know now but like the Bible says you will know them by their fruits and eventually the true intent will be revealed. As for Alph he brings also another interesting point there are small gods many of them. Thats why there is so much confusion men tickle their ambitions by not hearing correctly or if they do they discount it because its not what they personally want. Jesus said my sheep know my voice. Neither men know God and want to discredit where they can and make any hope in the Lord seem foolish. To me it sounds exactly what the enemy would do or at very least human foolish wisdom. No tree being evil produces good fruit. Dont allow men who have no idea who God is or does influence, because the battle ground is the mind and the enemy will use anything he can to turn people away. So put on the full armor of God.

Add Christianity hasn't? EXACTLY!!! Christianity hasn't "taken" a dime from anybody!!! Several religions/religious leaders have in the NAME of Christianity...but that's not the fault of God. That's entirely man's fault. Religion has been described as "Man's version of what God said." Pay close attention to what some people say and check it against the Bible. They change a word or two and go around the world yelling it at the top of their lungs and people that don't really know the Bible fall for it on too many occasions. The WBC is a prime example. The basis of their "fame" goes directly against the Bible. But too many people believe they are doing God's work. Sad, really, but the Bible said it would happen.

Christianity is an organisation, and as such members of it have taken more than just money in gods name.
I was working at a christian radio station years ago, reading the teletype while a song was playing. As I watched the letters being typed out it told the story of the massacre of hundreds of innocent people by Jim Jones and his followers. I was so sick I nearly through up. Then I became more angry than anything else. I began to see religion as an evil thing, that puts one person in the position where others believe they no gods will, or plan better than they do. Leading to more abuse's than I have time or the stomach to list.
I have not set foot in a church sense then, save for a weeding of funeral. I believe in God not religion. So if I need answers I ask him. I ( and IMO ) no one needs anyone to tell them what god want them to do.
I saw criticism of other people having faith in "fairy tales" when to them, that's what your faith may be. Christ said that we will know him by many names. Don't judge the faith of others. God may be speaking to them in a way you don't understand.
My church is where two or more of God's children are gathered. Even on a Valkyrie.

Christianity is an organisation, and as such members of it have taken more than just money in gods name. Christianity is NOT an organization!! You are talking about organized religions. Big difference in the two. Jim Jones is another prime example of man twisting God's Word to suit their own agenda. To get mad at God because of what man does ( especially when they use His name to try and add credence) is like kicking the cat because the dog bit you. Robert, 3Fan, Chris , Bashful, you guys know the same savior I do.
I see your fruit and it looks like it should.
Man cannot fool you anymore.
You have seen the truth and asked it into your hearts.
God Bless us all that we may all see.
But all won't see, it's the sad truth.
It was written down a long time ago,, and should not shock any of us,, that it is true.
But we are ordered to keep on trying to spread the real truth to all who will listen.
Much to our detriment, but one day all will be made right and we will not be ashamed of his appearing.

Sincere about dropping to a knee? A grandstander is what he is... public display of alleged humility before God... except he's not humble at all... he grandstands for all to see.

It was around $5 the last time I was in one two or three years ago. I'm neither a coffee drinker nor a football fan, but I can understand your frustration with the hype. The passage of time will prove both his abilities and his true character.

A grandstander is what he is... public display of alleged humility before God... except he's not humble at all... he grandstands for all to see. I don't reckon you have any proof of that? I didn't think so. He was doing/saying the same things when he was at Fla.

I mean... here we have Herman Cain... tells us that God told him to run... knowing full well that scandal was about to embrace him. Was God being a jokester here? Did Herman think that God was going to make his sexual harassment issues just up and go away? Then again, how about Michelle... God told her to run as well... that's what she said. God must be a funny guy/gal/it? Telling the two of these folks to go for it... and poor ole Michelle barely gets 6 percent of the vote. How could God do this to her? How come God didn't help her out here... after all, told her to run. And then, of course, we've got good ole Rick Perry... God told him to run too... I'm beginning to question God's ability to pick viable candidates, but that's another story. Ricky Ticky makes barely 10 percent. God seems to be betting on the wrong horses. It's a MORMON that got top draw. Just to bring it back to the 1st topic. BTW bot 60 miles in today! valk related!

"Christianity should not be judged by the conduct of Christians. It should be judged by the conduct of Christ." Jesse Duplantis Believing in the the teachings of Christ is not Christianity. It is an organised religion, and has become a political organisation. TRUTH.

Thespian You recount the Jim Jones incident and say that is why you stopped going to church. Kinda sad especially since you were at a Christian radio station too. Question where in the New Testament does God justify what happened? Are you Baptized with the Holy Spirit? Do you have discernment to hear and what God would want in a situation? Do you have the will to do what He wants? The church is supposed to be a place where people flow in the gifts of the Spirit and train others to do the same. Its not supposed to be a feel good on Sunday meeting. Jesus said I have to be about the work of my Father. Maybe you dropped the ball? This is true Christianity not the organized religion that you see so much of, but if you see it what have you done to change it? What personal things have you done to remove the teachings that have no power or are to put Christ on the back burner as a distant and uninterested God? I ask these questions of you but I also ask and answer these questions to myself sometimes everyday. For if you have the Love of God and Jesus in your heart there is no way you can sit still. Kind of like Jesus when He went into the Temple and overturned all the tables. Or maybe it all was religion to you and you dont really know the Lord or have the understanding of how and when He talks to you or has saved you from some bad situations.WHO IS HE TO YOU?

Is this how you consider someone else's points of view? All that is - is food for some thought. However, one has to be capable of such thought, consider the PoV and then discard or file. Personally I think her points are bang-on. Maybe you should consider what she said, compare it to some of the views espoused by various candidates during this freak-show and connect the dots. (Yeah right...LOL!)
