But I gotta ask it.  Embarrassed

Is the sound of the exhaust an indicator of how rough or smooth the engine is running?

the old girl is running fine and there is no hint of hesitation or any other anomaly. She accelerates smoothly and idles just fine. But the sound of the exhaust (2 Brothers Racing) sound rough at low speeds/idle. I've enough sea foam, Techron, etc. through her to know that the next step would be tearing into the carbs but since the only indication of rough running seems to be the sound of the exhaust, I think i might be chasing windmills.

And BTW: The tach is rock solid stable, FWIW.

Your exhaust pressure is at it's lowest when this is happening. Lay 20 dollar bills on the ground below the exhaust and blip the throttle, watch the pressure increase.

The cobra exhaust in my Valk sounds the same way. I just think  it's due to the lower back pressure, don't worry about it.

Mine with the TB 6 x 6 does the same thing.

I think idle is supposed to be 900.

Twist it up to 1000 (just a bit) for a smoother idle, maybe.

Will a $1 work?

I found that using $100 bills will provide more valid results.

Good because you probably would have been chasing windmills. Enough cleaner seems to have been put through the bike to clean out the slow speed jets. You know, you might want to check your plugs. A fresh set of plugs always seems to make em run better.   Grin   Wink

When I used to have a Harley,
I had to lay (out) $20 bills ALL OVER the place just to keep it running!  2funny

Yep, put a fresh set of Iridium plugs in right after I bought her.
