Good afternoon all, I have a question and probably a problem, and would like some non-pyschiatric help.

I have just installed a new upper rad hose on my 99 IS and it now has a kink/fold in the hose, just where it bends around teh frame to the radiator.

Will this kink/fold work out with antifreeze and pressure in the system or do I have to remove it and reinstall it?

Thanks.

Your best bet would be to loosen the hose clamps and turn the hose a little til the crimp disappears.

Could restrict coolant flow. I'd fix it right away.

Here is a photo of teh crimp, turning the hose does not seem to make a difference.

My next option is to shorten the hose by about an inch. Thoughts?

Is this an OEM 1-1/8" pre-formed hose?

Yep, good question.

Doesn't look correct and I don't think shortening it will help out much.

Could use an internal spring to open it up.

Yes it is an EOM hose from HDL.

There are days when I really like working on my bike and then there are days when I can understand why a member took a hammer to his.

It's supposed to be pre formed, no kink necessary. looks like they sent you the wrong hose.

Could it be turned backward? You know, radiator end on engine and engine side on radiator?

something not right there, if you run it that way it will most likely overheat the engine, end for end or twist maybe?????  If you lay this one beside the old hose does it even look close to the same shape??

if that is the oem hose..i'd say you put it on backward...the 90 degree bend needs to go to the thermostat housing and the 45 degree bend needs to go to the radiator..

I just dug out my new hoses  for my std.. upper hose is 19116-MZ0-000 and the lower hose is 19115-MZO-000. I think you've got the wrong hose, if I turn mine backward, the kink is just above the thermostat. The lower hose put up top would kink just like that.

I believe that is the issue.

I will pull it off and turn it around tonight.

No such thing.  That's why you posted your question here where there are others that have either done it, or can help you through it.

I hope it being on backwards is really your problem, that way it will be fixed!

Only Dumb question is one that you don't ask.

If only I had a dollar for every time I've done something incorrect that seems dumb to me after I've done it, then found out what I should have done instead.
I could be vacationing in the Keys with all those bucks.  crazy2

Result:

Removed hose and turned it around. Still kinked.

Shortened hose - still kinked (regardless of which way it was installed).

Said many unpleasant words - Went to NAPA (I get a discount there) and bought a generic flexible hose. No kink.

Now to get the air cleaner back on.

The best part - the hose did not need to be replaced. About 3 years ago I replaced the leaking stock hose with a generic flexible because I could not get a stcok hose in the time frame I needed it in.. Decided since I was desmogging the bike I may as well put a new correct hose on it.

I know I know - "If it ain't broke don't fix it" -  I may have to tatto that to teh back of my right hand.

But thanks for all the help guys!!!!
