Did You?

Did you ever look at the sky on an overcast day, see the edge of the clouds and think I’ll bet that’s just ten miles south and I’ll bet the sun is shining on the other side, and hear the Dragon whisper, “Let’s find out?”

Did you ever go for a short ride and find yourself two counties gone?

Did you ever look up a two-lane road that you hadn’t ridden before and wonder how far it went before it changed to dirt?

Did you ever watch the sun dropping onto the horizon and wonder whether you had your night glasses in the bag and then decide it really didn’t matter?

Did you ever find yourself on a road that you didn’t intend to ride and find it was okay anyway?

Did you ever start to turn your nose toward home and hear the Dragon whisper, “Just a little bit more?”

Did you ever sit at the corner looking toward home and away and wonder how much it would matter if you never turned back?

Did you ever wander about until you rolled back up to the intersection with the four lane and notice that the arrows pointed opposite directions to what you thought they should?

Did you ever roll down the entrance ramp to the flyway and have to chop the throttle to keep from running up the tailpipes of the traffic at highway velocity?

Did you ever put your feet up onto the highway pegs and feel the cold evening air rushing up your legs and know that this is the best feeling that there could be and wonder how all those people in the cages could stand themselves?

Did you ever casually glance over at the light bar and know for a certainty that you were invisible to the bear?

Did you ever ride the Dragon away into a world that knows nothing of questions, worries, and sadnesses that seem to want to crush your chest?

Did you ever ride away to lose yourself and find yourself somewhere along the road?

Did you ever turn the throttle one last time before rolling down the lane to home and think that you could just do this forever?

Did you ever hear the Dragon call? Did you ever answer? Did you ever follow the Dragon into the place where you knew the Dragon wished to be?    ……Did you?

No, but it would save a lot of trouble if I started  coolsmiley

Did you ever put your feet up onto the highway pegs and feel the cold evening air rushing up your legs...

I've done some of those things... but the most memorable is getting so engrossed in the ride that the engine starts to sputter... and you reach down to put the petcock to reserve... only to find that you already did that around 30 miles ago... Shocked

Quote
The drone of the engine and the wind in my face helps calm the fear waiting in the wings for an unguarded moment to pounce. Back on the Dragon headed for home, I have an almost two-hour ride to digest what I’ve just learned. I may have fudged the speed limit a time or two hitting 80 mph or better as I circled around Shreveport on I-220. The furnace hot blast from this 105 degree day washing over me somehow feels good. For the next two hours I am a biker again. The frailty I’d felt drops away with a twist of the wrist. The 1500cc flat 6 howls my defiance through the 6 into 6 cobra pipes, and it seems that surely not even the big C can catch me while mounted on my powerful dragon. I know it’s only an illusion, but it is one I will come to cherish more with each subsequent trip.

Thanks for sharing that, Guy.

This coming May will be my 5 year anniversary since finishing radiation treatments for Prostate Cancer.  Finished treatments the end of May and bought my Interstate on June 29th.

I think the bike helps the healing.  Keep on riding.

Lot of that stuff you listed. coolsmiley These Dragons we ride seem to do that to us. Wink Towards the end of the month i run out of money LONG before i want to go home. Cool I catch my self laughing uncontrollaby and me and the phat ghurl know zackly why!! Cheesy I have traffic lights to deal with around here and what i get a kick from is seeing the longing in the eyes of the cage driver/passenger next to me.  Smiley She has cast a spell upon me and it ain't no bad thing!!! cooldude She be mad at me now cuz her part be back ordered.  crazy2 She will be happier when i let her down off the lift and we take turns stretching each other out.  Shocked Can't hardly wait.  Lips Sealed RIDE SAFE.
