Is it still possible to get the red rear blinker lenses? If so where?
Thanks Slammer

I don't think that you can get the red lenses, but you can still get the clear.

Red lenses are available through KuryAkyn when you get the deep bezel/lenses for the later model Valks that use a single lens mount screw. Do not use the red lenses in front,...use the amber or smoke bezel/lenses in front.

Or, for just a couple bucks go to a hobby shop or Walmart's model section and buy a can of Testors red spray paint. It's spray enamel, #1605, Transparent Candy Apple Red. Remove the amber lenses, clean them good with some alcohol and let dry good, then spray the inside of the lens. It will usually take a couple coats, follow directions re. the second coat. The lens will now shine red when the lights are on, you can't tell they were ever amber, and the cost is quite a bit less and you have them overnight.

Every once in a while, there's a guy that sells red lenes on ebay for the Valk. They're clear lenses that he's painted with Testors.

Phat Performance has em, here. Only for lens with single screw on the bottom (99+). Scroll down for 'red' lens.

I used to make them In '07, my supervalk came with lenses just like those, red (run, turn, brake) in the back, and orange in the front.

Do you have any pics? I only made the lenses and never did anything with the wiring.
Mase, I just sent a message and 4 pics to the email on your profile. They are off my computer so I couldn't post here........ never figured out he whole photostash thing.
Is this what you were looking for?

Yep. The candy apple translucent spray paint and new red 1157 LED's in other sockets worked great for me. I kept painting them with light coats till they matched the brake light lens. You need to paint the inside of the lens. My brake light is now an LED to match. Follow previous threads on wiring the rear turn signals to make them running. brake and turn indicators. I am very happy with the end product and feel a little safer knowing I have more lights on back there.
FYI, I bought a pair of turn signals off the front of another valk to use the sockets and the lens so I would not mess up the originals. I paid twenty bucks for them and still have the OEMs just in case. Just my two cents.

I've also used the Testers Translucent paint on my Vulcan Nomad and satisfied with the result. But also like the above listed options.

I'm not a fan of red rear signal lights. Every time I follow someone that has done a mod to their signal lights to red, they have significantly reduced the visibility of their signal lights to the point that sometimes they are unnoticeable when activated, usually in the day time more than night however. The Amber lights stands out in the crowd of red rear lights and make you give notice to an amber light blinking.

No doubt the red blinkers are not as bright as amber, but mine are plenty visible..... AND if you want to make them full-time running lights (and brake, and turn), they cannot be amber.

+1 Had mine painted for years with the above mentioned paint. Can't tell the difference

It is because of this that I went with the electrical connection conversion. The lense remains amber, the blinker still blinks amber. The benefit is that it uses a red led ring that lights with your tail light and your brake light. When you turn on the blinker that side leds go out so just the blinker is lit.

The bigger picture is that the rear lights color regulations are antiquated where the subsections apply to Red rear lights on motorbikes. Those need to be updated. All it takes is a few sentences or an exception amended to the vehicle code. It's a better solution not saying easier solution than installing red lens or painting amber lens red. I believe the idea behind Red rear running lights was so people would be able to readily recognize the front from the rear of a vehicle for whatever the situation that calls for this, or sompthing along those lines. Somebody else might know the legal reasons. Whatever, motorcycles don't pose the same hypothetical the code was meant to address, but subsumed in the vehicle regulation, as it is, 'red lights' make riders less safe, ambers being more effective. The way I see it, all new bikes from the factory should be required to have rear signal lights function as running lights. Bet the legal color would turn out to be amber, too.

I ran amber lights as turn and brake and running lights for four years here in the Houston area and near had a problem with inspection or LEOs. I do have red lens now and use a 3496 bulb in them to make them brighter.

It's my understanding that Fed DOT forbids any rear running lights in amber.... everywhere in every vehicle. I also understand that you could do so for years and never have an LEO problem or ticket on a motorcycle.

dunno about you but some times I can't understand what I wrote the night before. Anyways, the crux was that motorbikes have a less conspicuous profile than other vehicles. I also posed the question what's the rationale behind 'Red' for rear running lights. And would whatever the reason apply to motorbikes in the same sense. At any rate, studies have shown that amber signals are more accident free than red signals. There was a correlation to that effect.

I liked the amber running lights because I ride in the fog and at night and I feel they show up better that the reds do.
