So many colors to choose from yet so few stand out

Covington, TN

« on: January 10, 2012, 07:46:08 PM »

Looking to make a modification or two to my 02 Standard Valkyrie, it's black with a bright red stripe.  Anyone know where I can get the original (OEM) color codes for those two colors?

Take it to NAPA and they'll scan it and mix up a batch that is a perfect (or about as near-perfect as you can get) match.  That's what I did after finding that ColoRite wanted an arm and a leg for their paint and the paint codes didn't match up to anything anyone had in their books.  It turns out that the silver on my bike is a Lexus color.

Bob E is correct about paint codes only being close. Fading takes it's toll and in some cases, like my 2 tone green and cream '97, the cream is different almost every time. The cream color was batch mixed with leftover colors by Honda and applied. No two batches were exactly the same.

So.....take parts and have them scanned to match. When I painted my faring, I had to match both green and cream; so I added some sparklies to the green. I also repainted the saddle bag lids and front fender at the same time. It came out super, all the colors match and unless you look REALLY close, you don't see the flake, just the sparkle.

Find a good body shop. They will be able to scan the color and do a nice match. The good thing is that they will spray check the color as well, so you have a better garuntee that the color is right. Its money well spent.
