Does anybody know of any way to clean up rusted exhaust pipes. They're still solid, but didn't know if there was any sort of solvent that would work to remove rust and perhaps bring them back...if this is possible. Anybody have any solution - would be appreciated.

I've used, with success, Turtle Wax Chrome Polish from Walmart to just polish off surface rust. It's only about $3 a bottle and it goes a long way.

Yep, it really depends upon the amount of degradation present.
Rusting will get to a point where chrome is no longer present.
At that point powder coating (ceramic) is probably called for.

Use OOOO steel wool and polish of your choice (BomsAway for me).
Do not push hard with the wool, work it up down, left right, repeat until rust gone. If it gets full of rust, replace with fresh piece. You can spray the rust with a penetrating oil a day before polishing.

Found some stuff called StrongArm Brand Penetrating & Gun Oil Rust Remover. Seems to work OK / found at http://www.strongarmbrand.com/Heard about it here, I think / bought some / have tried most of the other aforementioned products / might work better in concert with other products

+1 I like the waxes and polishes listed on www.topoftheline.com I've also had great results with Amsoil's metal polish

I'll second the turtle wax chrome polish, have had many times where this was to best solution to remove surface rust and bring as much shina as possible back to the chrome. recently picked up a second exhaust system with the piggis already cut and baffles drilled, but was hesitant to put it on for the look of the head pipes. After using the vance and hines kit I got to use with the system on my old shadow with no imptrovement, turtle wax chrome polish had them looking better than what was already on my valk

#1 on the 0000 steel wool.....It has to be 0-0-0-0 though. It won't scratch the chrome, and you can just take a can of honda polish spray and spray some on the steel wool then rub on pipes and rust is gone.

Bronze wool 0000 will do a better job than steel wool without the tendancy to make the chrome foggy. A bit of chrome polish on the bronze wool will help as well.
