Are the final drive problems on the Valkyrie isolated to the Valk?  I never hear of them on Goldwings, VtX, or Shadows.
Gotta be a good reason.
Thanks

Jim....I've got two valks/one 1500 GW....The 1500 GW is like the valk as far as the rear goes......can have the same problems from lack of care/maintenance.  The rears are not interchangeable, but the same problems exist.  I don't know about VTX'S or Shadows.  THe bottom line here is this...the valk/1500 gw rears will go forever (well-almost) if you perform the simple/easy maintenance on them about every 10-12 thousand miles.  If you don't, well...they go down the tubes rather quickly without it.  It's your choice.

Thanks Goose.  I've owned a couple of Valks, never did the rear spline maintenance myself.  Had it done when I replaced tires.
Just don't ever hear of it with other Hondas, & was wondering why.

Seems like Goldwings would be just like Valkyries...

I also have a Shadow ACE Tourer, 1100 shaft drive. No mention about the rear being a problem. But then most of the bikes are sitting less than 50K miles. Mines sitting close to 50K Km.

I happen to have a spare rear hub, u-joint and drive shaft, from a parted out bike. No signs of wear.

We have a couple of HSATF members who have over 100K miles on their T's.

When I had the dealer change the rear tire on my 1980 GL1100 wing, the splines were smeared with moly paste, so I think this is a standard practice on all shaft drive rear ends.
