Just got an HP with 7 Home Premium. I can't find how to make a speadsheet. My old XP won't transfer the speadsheets over. Nothing on 7 Home Prem says excell or spreadsheet. Help please.

Thanks; Sandy

Gotta Buy Excel. Some computers come with a 60 day trial version but in the end, everybody has to buy.  Cry

As was said, you'll hafta buy Excel, or install some other spreadsheet program...

Before you spend the money on Office/Excel, may I suggest you try either Libre Office (Free, open source office implementation):

http://www.libreoffice.org/

Or try Google Docs:

http://docs.google.com

If you're comfortable with the Cloud Thing you can use Google Docs, log in from your old computer, copy up all your spreadsheets, then log in from the new computer and access them (In fact, could access 'em from any computer with a web browser)

It's windows 7 Home Premium edition.

Windows 7  and all the other windows programs are operating systems only. Exel spreadsheets are part of the Microsoft Office program. They are two different things altogether, and do completely different things.

Quicksilver is right but if you want to but Microsoft office get the student and teacher edition it will do almost everything that the others will do but is over 100.00 cheaper and can be used on 3 computers. You will not get your Outlook with it though

Doesn't Windows 7 have the compatibility option? Vista has the ability to run in xp mode for programs made for xp. I am no computer geek, but I can run games and such in XP compatable mode. Forget exactly how it is done. I think it entails right click on the program and select compatability. Maybe some of the experts can weigh in cooldude

Windows 7 does have XP "Compatibility mode", but it's merely a virtual machine running Windows XP - he would still have to install an office program onto the virtual machine (for those unfamiliar with the term, a "virtual machine" is just that - there is a program running in Windows 7 that appears to be a physical computer that XP runs on) in order to make use of spreadsheet files.

I'm adding a vote for openoffice, even though I use Microsoft Office (being a student at some universities is a way to get the Microsoft software at no cost  Cool )

My Win7 new pc came with Microsoft Excel Starter 2010 installed. I didn't even know it was there until I just tried to open a .xls file one day. The PC asked if I wanted to "install" excel starter and I did. Works fine for the small excel files I keep for tracking things like bike maintainence.

I have a "new Windows 7" on my Computer and do not have any ideal of what all it offers. Is there a web that tells all that is in program ? Can I download a op. manuel ? As you can tell, not the sharpest blade in the drawer.  Embarrassed

He said it was a new PC so likely the exel was just part of the new computer bundle, (free programs) not part of 7 it self.

If you have it on your old computer,  cant you burn a disk from the old one- copy Office or Exel and install on new computer.... or if you have the backup disks from the old one, just install it....

Open office.       Anyone here run linux as their os? just curios. I got tired of buying software and trying to protect the PC from viruses and such. Went linux, now no problems with that stuff anymore.
