I just might not be living right.  Parts ordered. Had the gas cap go on my previous 98. Now it's my 97. And it is leaking "again" from the key hole tickedoff Petcock is leaking from the switch side, no visible evidence but can feel it. Have been smelling a little gas for a while which was probobly the gas lid, but not bad. But when the petcock went the whole house smelled. She now is parked outside under a blue tarp. Reminds me of the Hurricanes of 04.  Kind of sad to see her there after all this time in the garage. And Pruer wherever you are, I bought the Pingle.

Better to be judged by 12, then carried by 6.

I had a similar problem of smelling gas and some "splahing" when full from around lid. I found a thin O ring that fit under the lid gasket and pushed it in. No longer "spills" or smells. Sw

I wish that were the problem, but as with my first Valk you can actualy see the gas in the keyhole when you slosh it around.

Not being critical here but that would make me think you're filling the tank up to where the overflow ought to be draining so I'd suggest check the overflow.

Also, with a full tank of gas sitting in the sun, the gas will expand and could cause the same affect.

I'd suggest not filling the tank so completely will correct the problem.

Appreciate the reply. I have been wondering about that very thing as this is my second failure on two different bikes . Only common theme is me!  I do regularly fill it as full as I can get it so when I figure gas milage it is to the same level. That being said, gas is visable now when sloshed at 1/2 tank so something has failed in the cap. Unless they are all supposed to vent. So perhaps overfilling was building up preasure the overflow would not relieve? I did check the overflow and can blow through it into the tank, so it is clear. Or maybe I just am "Lucky" and got a two-fer.
