Just a heads up for the people who live close.

Never seen anything like this before. Could be some sort of man made interference, and maybe it's not.

Actually, Yellowstone is a huge (semi)dormant volcano many miles wide. Scientists have known this for many years and are keeping tabs on seismic activity(about 25 yrs. or so) which I guess will let them know if something is about to happen. If it should blow/erupt, as it did somewhere around 640,000 yrs. ago, it will cover a major portion of the U.S. according to various scientific papers. Anyone within a couple hundred miles when it erupts should bend over and kiss their butt goodbye....it's that big. Not that the scientists really know for sure, but it's said that it should be at least another 10,000 yrs. or more before the next eruption. I guess it's safe to buy green bananas then.  Wink

i enjoyed visiting yellowstone, the wife and kids hated it!!  they were thinking that it would be warm since we went in august, i told 'em, bring warm cloths!!  (dumbies).....

we didn't feel a single thing when we were there (earthquake wise), we did have a bear in the back of our truck, we had a paw print on the back window that we found the next day!  my daughter said she heard something "sniffing" at her head at night!!  we had our pop up camper, it was fun (for me anyway)

This is why we need global warming....the cooling effect of a super volcanic eruption will cool the planet too much if we do not act now! We need more greenhouse gasses before it is too late !

Yellowstone is the largest volcano in the world. If it were to erupt, it would cover the entire globe in ash, bringing on the second ice age. Ash blocks sun light very well...

It wouldn't be a few hundred miles, the planet would slowly die because of the amount of ash. Anything inside of close to 300 miles will just be incinerated. That's a big chunk of real estate..

Sorry, but that's off now...

Elusive pollution-busting molecules are scrubbing our planet's atmosphere at a much faster rate than first imagined, according to gas-bothering boffins.

Reactions by the cleaning agents, known as Criegee intermediates, are also emitting a by-product that forms solar radiation-reflecting clouds that could help cool Earth and reduce the effects of global warming.

http://www.theregister.co.uk/2012/01/16/criegee_biradicals/

The Criegee rearrangement is a rearrangement reaction named after Rudolf Criegee.
