If your offended , you need a history lesson!!

OK, this was a little weird today. Was running some errands. Rode up to the Post Office. There was a beautiful, fairly new, Goldwing sitting there. I stopped to admire it, lots of Bling, very nicely done bike. The owner was walking out. He was a black guy, about my age, mid 50's.  I told him what a beautiful bike he had, he said thanks. He pointed at the Valk, said I see your riding a (quoting here)" Poor white mans Goldwing". I was stunned for a second. Then asked him what he meant. He proceeded to tell me that only old, white guys ride them, he wouldn't be caught dead on one, and no self respecting black man would. I was speechless, for a minute anyway, and just stood there looking at him. He turned to put his helmet and gloves and stuff on, No...I didn't slug him..LOL, and I told him he was a "racist and a bigot" . He said "Yes I am and what are you going to do about it". I said, "Feel sorry for you" and walked away. He called me an asshole as I was walking away.

Now what the hell was that all about!! I have never had that thrown at me before and it is still bothering me. Just wanted to vent and share that with y'all.  tickedoff

Sorry, but you can't call him a racist...only "old white guys" are racists.
I had a guy on a V65 call my Valk a pos one time. Kinda flabbergasted
me, too. Before I could say anything a friend of mine grabbed my arm
and pulled over to the side to discuss where we were riding that day....
even though it had already been discussed. Probably saved me from
going to jail or the hospital.

Well I guess I am an old white guy by most peoples standards,  so ,... maybe.  But then, I don't give a poop what anyone else thinks of my bike.  I own and ride the Valkyrie because I love this bike.  I do not want a half ton of fairing and radio and trunk.  Simple, powerful and smooth cruiser is my preference.

Ride what ya like but don't expect me to stop and help an a**hole pick his POS up when he lays it down.  I only help respectful people.

All I can say is there seems to be a whole lotta jerks out there now.  Didn't used to be that way, respect was something you gave to another until they proved their unworthyness.  I guess in his book our Valkyries are not worthly of respect thusly making us unworthy.  That's a shame, he could have improved his circle of friends.  His loss.

Just consider the source as being flawed.  Tactless, classless comment by the GW rider.  Most riders appreciate other motorcycles.

Classless, tactless people come in all colors and ages, too.

Another poor old white guy.

Well, my cousin traded his Goldwing in on a Victory Cross Country because some girl said the GW was an 'old man's bike'.  I guess it is a multi-national old man's bike.

That “Gentleman” obviously has no clue.  I’ve ridden several newer style Gold Wings and although they are very pretty and very stylish, to me, I felt I was driving a Civic on two wheels.

All those do-dads and buttons and such.  I prefer a more simple style of riding.

But, when I can’t hold up my Valk anymore, maybe I’ll buy a triked out Wing.

Ummm, no I won’t, I’ll just trike out one of my Valk’s and buy a Civic.

This kind of reminds me of the Opel GT, it was called the "Poor Man's Vette"  I am assuming the guy must have been thinking "Poor Man's Goldwing" but seeing how he was talking trash he had to add the white thing.

Its kind of funny, I am 55 years old and ride a Valkyrie, to me that just says some of us in our younger  years did not realize what a wonderful ride the Valk was.

I personally have never ridden with a Valkyrie, only with Harleys, I frequent biker bars and never once has anyone questioned why I ride a Valkyrie.  Most riders dont really care what you ride as long as you are riding.  JMHO

Aaah Karen, good to hear from you.  2funny 2funny

I'm an even older white guy, and for what it's worth(not much) I traded a Wing for the Valk. My wife preferred the Wing but when the Valkyrie came out I wanted one real bad. Then a few years later she became unable to ride with me due to health issues. It was then she told me to get that Valkyrie I wanted so bad. In her words, she saw no reason for me to stop doing what I enjoyed just because she couldn't go with me. Been that way for nearly ten years now.

Jeff, he's just another jerk that has no idea what he's talking about. Often times people appear to be idiots, then they open their mouth and it removes all element of doubt.

Ok, I hope this doesn't come across for me being a racist cause at 56 (you know, old white man, and Valk rider) I've been around all kinds of people, I'm sure like most here. And probably like most here there are many other colors of people, blacks included, that I'd much rather hang out with than a chosen few whites.

My theory: there are a$$holes in every race.

Now in reference to the black GW rider and this happening today I wonder if he wasn't hyped up from yesterday after maybe hearing a MLK speech.

just saying...
