I think no matter what you ride having a bike is a luxary. There are people that cant afford their house payment and dont have toys. Then again there are people who cant afford their house and have 3 bikes.

I like to think of myself as a "youngish" 59 yo white guy with a Valk. It seems to me like most of posters in this site fit in that category. Also seems like the reply to OP was a little rude, but right on calling it like he saw it. When did the Goldwing become the young, hip, black guy bike?
don't think anyone including the guy who insulted the OP said the Goldwing is for the young, hip black guy, except maybe implied by Willow. What's with that Willow? So, Jimmy, according to the conventional wisdom of some you would be at once a poor old white guy and a wealthy young black man.
i like the goldwing and would like to have one to compliment the Valk. I don't think we Valk lovers need to be so sensitive. Come on, MAN UP! Ignore insults!!

Well a Black Friend of mine told me how it is and it makes sense.
I told him I have never had any reason to hate all black people.
He Replied "why They hate you"(WHITE BOYS HE MEANT,, ADDRESSING ME)
Kinda makes sense that way.

He needs to meet Red Diamond in Beaumont, Texas. Last I checked, he's black and he rides a Valk. I do believe he has a relative who also rides one, and (I'm assuming here) is also black
Thanks Bobby, you beat me to it, as I just started to read this post this evening. You can tell all those " Olde White Guys With Valkyries", I have 2, would love to have 3, but. If it wasn't for all you old white guys, I wouldn't have anybody to ride with, I only know one black guy with a Valkyrie, he's a Beaumont Policeman. He encouraged me to get a Valkyrie in 02, but nooo, I had to have a full dressed Harley, what a mistake. Nine months later, here comes the Valkyrie, an 01, 3 since then. PS. I can't afford to be a racist, all of my relatives aren't black, non of them are "Olde White Guys That Ride Valkyries" though. LOL

Well, I've met a couple of short, dark, & handsome fellers from the Jax area that are definitely not Valk haters, they are Valk riders. I have met & talked with them at Rossmeyers place in Daytona several times over the last couple years. While they are a couple of shades darker in skin color than I am they share something with me that really matters.... A love for Valkyries! Also over the years I have found that a very high percentage of the HD riders who are darker than me seem to comment on & appreciate the Valkyrie much more than the ones who share my skin tone. Sorry you had a bad experience with any biker, regardless of his bike preference or skin tone.

i like the goldwing and would like to have one to compliment the Valk. I don't think we Valk lovers need to be so sensitive. Come on, MAN UP! Ignore insults!! It was an extrapolation a little beyond what the rules of lgic allow, but them attempts at humor often violate the bounds of legitimate logic.
Yeah, I know. She tells me all the time that I'm not really funny.
Incidentally, I think the alleged logic of the "self respecting" black man was a bit flawed too. I guess lots of us jump top the conclusion that everyone we ant to be like us has exactly the same preferences as do we.
So there's no misunderstanding, Donald, I was attempting to poke fun at the ridiculous comment of the antagonist, not at Goldwings or Goldwing owners.
And in the interest of full disclosure, I don't personally like Goldwings, but I know a lot of people that do. I've no problem with that or with their tastes. I think when I get really old I may also, but we won't know until I get there.
When you select up the message board (the board, not a post within the board), right next to the "New Topic" link you would use to start a thread is a"New Poll" link. If we're taking bets, I'm guessing your 95% is much too low.

I'll agree with Willow, your prediction is way to low. If you are trying to prove a point you can continue with your poll, or you can assume that you have read about or heard about, was told about or met one black asshole. When it comes to "assholes", color doesn't matter, but it does give the " offended party" or " offended parties" something to talk about. My .01 worth.

1800 Wing will beat most Valks. Sort of depends on who's riding which bike tho. I have both. So, Jimmy, according to the conventional wisdom of some you would be at once a poor old white guy and a wealthy young black man.
(Yeah, I know. She tells me all the time that I'm not funny.) The Valk is my hotrod and the Wing is my Cadillac. The Wing is a very comfortable "cold weather" bike. It has excellent wind protection and heated grips/seat. I won't be riding it much in the 100+ deg summers. As for the Valk/Wing controversy, I am not poor (I own a Valk!), but rich in many ways. Mostly I have many friends on this board of all colors and am very proud of that. As for the Winger's attitude to the OP, he's not worth our time. Darkside on both bikes and synthetic oil in both. Not THERE'S a controversy..... Hay Jimmyt

It's a shame race got brought into it at all. It's not relevant to the argument that he didn't like the Valkyrie. To insult another rider's bike is just a low class move, especially after the OP complimented his. The race thing just wasn't necessary. Total douche move.

WHY DO YOU PEOPLE SUGAR COAT WHAT YOU SAY? Because there are standards of decorum on the board. Back to the jerk with the "Valkyries are for Old White Guys" comment. He apparently never heard of the Gold Wing Road Riders Assoc. They have the Fashion Challenged Old White Folks. He'll have no problem with breaking the color barrier there as they all wear the same one.

OK, this was a little weird today. Was running some errands. Rode up to the Post Office. There was a beautiful, fairly new, Goldwing sitting there. I stopped to admire it, lots of Bling, very nicely done bike. The owner was walking out. He was a black guy, about my age, mid 50's. I told him what a beautiful bike he had, he said thanks. He pointed at the Valk, said I see your riding a (quoting here)" Poor white mans Goldwing". I was stunned for a second. Then asked him what he meant. He proceeded to tell me that only old, white guys ride them, he wouldn't be caught dead on one, and no self respecting black man would. I was speechless, for a minute anyway, and just stood there looking at him. He turned to put his helmet and gloves and stuff on, No...I didn't slug him..LOL, and I told him he was a "racist and a bigot" . He said "Yes I am and what are you going to do about it". I said, "Feel sorry for you" and walked away. He called me an asshole as I was walking away. Now what the hell was that all about!! I have never had that thrown at me before and it is still bothering me. Just wanted to vent and share that with y'all. This kind of reminds me of the Opel GT, it was called the "Poor Man's Vette" I am assuming the guy must have been thinking "Poor Man's Goldwing" but seeing how he was talking trash he had to add the white thing. Its kind of funny, I am 55 years old and ride a Valkyrie, to me that just says some of us in our younger years did not realize what a wonderful ride the Valk was. I personally have never ridden with a Valkyrie, only with Harleys, I frequent biker bars and never once has anyone questioned why I ride a Valkyrie. Most riders dont really care what you ride as long as you are riding. JMHO I ride with an eclectic mix of people and machines... I also attend a lot of events and frequent places largely populated by Harley riders (some rough types too).... and even most of the Harley snob types seem to respect the Dragon. I have had a few look askance at first, like, "Oh, what's that non-Harley doing here?" then they seemed drawn to eventually do a little walk-by... and I see a kind of bob of the head as if to say, "Well, it ain't a Harley, but it's still pretty bad ass." I have lots of other riders of ALL types openly admire the Valk. As for black riders, so far, like most riders I interact with, they've all been cool.. especially the Buffalo Soldiers MC... The PGR did a welcome ride together with them.... seemed like a stand up bunch. I'd guess in another ten years, you'll not encounter another douchebag like that guy. I think your response was good... and I bet a dollar to a doughnut hole if you'd said, "Yeah, you may be right, but why don't we line up and let you enjoy sucking the exhaust fumes of this "poor white man's GW?" he'd have made some lame ass excuse.

That's actually funny. I had a GL1100 and wanted a bigger bike for cross country riding, and went with the Valk because I thought of the wing as an 'old man's' bike. In my GWRRA group there are four younger than me, and 3 of them ride Valkyries.
Like saying a Harley is a greaseball druggie's bike. Like my dentist's receptionist and the weather man on the TV.
The race thing is inexcusable, but it's a weapon any non-white person can use... Fred.

I'm definitely an old white guy, but so are most people that ride large bikes over here (apart from some Harley riders that are just waiting to get old, usually at the parts counter). Fine bikes that they undoubtably are, I cannot visualise any circumstances in which I would buy a Gold Wing. I think you just met an asshole, they come in all shapes and colors.

When i was a bit younger my dream bike was a Goldwing, when i mentioned this to a buddy he said"What ya want one of them for, they're for the old and disabled".
When we were out a few weeks later a couple of Wings pulled up,both well into thier 60s and one of them had a fold up stick.
Thats when I fell in love with the Valk.
