Hi Dudes, I am in the process of ordering a pair of hardbags from Champion.. Their new policy is that before they do a two-tone paint match, a painted part of the bike HAS to be sent to them.. Not only have these bags gotten expensive, now this hoop to jump through..  Looking at my Valk, I surmised that the easiest part to remove & ship would be the front fender.. It doesn't seem that hard to do,but is there something I need to know before i start this? I'm not the most mechanically inclined person,but this doesn't seem too complicated.. Thanks! |

Or, the back half of the rear fender... You will need to remove the rear fender rail bolts to install the Champions anyway. Just a thought.

I hear `ya Dog,& thanks! I got `em off with no problem.. Now to run them over to UPS tomorrow to ship.. Sideroad Cycles is telling me that right now it is a 4 week + turnaround time... What is good is that the weather here won't improve for at least anoght 5-6 weeks anyway... Will give me time to throw on more chrome, next up is stainless throttle & brake cables.

What a goat rope. I mean, I know they want a good match, and new paint (from paint codes) will not match old paint on the bike, but how about you go to a local auto paint shop and get the paint on the bike scanned and send them the results electronically? A few years ago, I had a body shop paint hardbags to match the wife's bike. Rode it in, he studied it with his eyes, and mixed a perfect match......... one color, but Yami metalflake in it. |

I bought two sets of the hard-bags from Champion and I love them. Mine where so perfect I didn't want to put them on the bike. I had a women back into my bike and hit the bags and there was little damage, if it would have been ABS it would have been in pieces. I bought my first pair about 7yrs ago and the price is still about the same. They are beefy and easy to put on, but get someone to help hold the bag so you don't scratch them or you will cry.

Thanks for your insight, Dreamaker... I had my doubts about giving someone that much money without talking to them 1st, but anyone I found who has given Champion a review has always given them a thumbs up.

I called re: sending them part of my bike to match and was told that they would talk to the painter and call me back. NO return call..... so far.... 4 hours later.
For heaven's sake, I am not asking for a Van Gogh, just a simple paint job that can be easily matched with the paint code.
I will not take part(s) off my bike for them.
I guess I'm just too old and contankerous to jump through more hoops for someone I am paying to do a job for me.
So be it.

Seems like they got ya doin' a dance, but if yer not in a hurry, they really are worth the wait  I've had mine for 10 years easy. They still look great, and as others have said, they can be fixed, if ya crunch 'em. The only issue I had was with the crash bars that were slightly 'off ' (they no longer offer them  ), but everything turned out well in the end  I have not had any need to deal with them since the purchase, but customer service was great when I needed it  Black Dog |

Well,I finally got these bags in & trying to install them.. Proving to be a difficult task. . I'm having problems trying to attach the mount plate to the fender mount.. doesin't want to screw in & the chrome piece doesn't want to fit flush against the fender.. Any tricks from someone who has done this? |
