There's been a lot of saber rattling and talk of closing the Strait of Hormuz. Of course there is the predictable threats from the war hawks about going to war. But honestly, we need more information before we run off half cocked at start another war.
To that end, I recommend the we build an observation area in the middle east. It will need to be centrally located with a smooth surface. Possibly a surface material such as glass. Also if we could find a way to illuminate it without electricity, say find some way to make it glow in the dark, we could use it on a 24 hour basis. See map below:
Of course, there may be some unavoidable environmental damage and the loss of some local species, but this project will probably mitigate greater losses later on.
Once this project is completed, we may find that we don't have nearly as much of a problem as we feared.

+1 on the order for the glowing glass parking lot! The question is if an area of the world is still in the stone age, what happens when you bomb them into the stone age? Shocked

Trust me, As a former aircraft re-fueler  on the USS Harry S Truman Aircraft Carrier. If Iran does pose to launch any kind of explosive devise towards a U.S. Aircraft Carrier, the sky will light up without electricity.
I'm still in the reserves and have no problem being called back to active duty if a situation like this persists to advance from an enemy attack on a ship. A carrier is one piece of machinery that does not like being screwed with.

We need to stop policing the world and playing politics with the war machine. We are powerful enough (for now) that we dont go to war unless we want to!The U.S.A. has the ability to drop in unannounced and unnoticed if we wanted to (Bin Laden?),crash the party and be home in time to send a note asking "How do ya like me now, Biotch?" before they figure out why the camels are on fire! We should warn the U.N. that all their "peace keepers" may not want to be near this party. If that does not make them realize they just F-ed up, we just spank their asses and ask "who is next and who would like some more?" !   We need to make it look Quick and Effortless. WE HAVE THE ABILITY!

I've long said we can drill for oil through glass, but curious why your selection is a mostly empty part of Iran instead of any of their major military areas, major cities, capital city, or especially the parts of Iran closest to the Strait of Hormuz...

CRAP!
Good catch Serk. I uploaded the wrong file. Can't find the finished version. I'll have to redo it tomorrow. for now, just imagine the green covering the whole country.

(Edit 9:42 am 1/19/2012  OK, redid map, this time with out cool radial fill and feathered edges for "glow" effect. Pretty well blew the punch line by now any way.)
