I rode up to Deal's Gap on MLK Day to see if I could locate my favorite hat ( gift from a friend ) and see if any pieces and parts was there from my friends crash. Most know the story about Greg taking off from the over-look with his kick-stand down ( switch had been by-passed ).Been having some 'puter issues and could'nt get my pictures to load last monday when I made another post about this ride. Well as they say a picture is worth a thousand words. You can see in this first picture the right hander Greg made with no problem then the dog-leg left that took him out when his kick stand hit the road throwing his bike sideways and through a speed limit sign before going off a very steep gorge.Right where my bike is sitting is where the kick-stand hit the road it left the road between the two largest pine tree's in the picture. When the crash happened I thought the sign was pulled out of the ground when he hit it but as I was kicking around the leaves looking for my hat and parts I stepped on the steel that was still in the ground. He broke it off right at the ground The ride was pretty much a " turd hunt " as I did'nt find my hat and only the rubber headlight boot could be re-used. I did make a nice traffic free pass across The Dragon so it was'nt a total bust. Picture below is all the pieces and parts I picked up around the area.

Sorry you didn't find your hat Joe. You should have nabbed the sign for him as a souveneir. If I had been in my pick-up truck it would have came home with me Pretty sure someone would have seen it strapped across my Interstate.

Sure glad it was a few moto parts you were picking up instead of body parts. He is a lucky guy to not be seriously injured.

Many times they just pound a little stub of that channel material into the ground and bolt the sign post to it... are you and Wimp still riding "somewhere" this weekend...? I've been "weatherwatching" -Mike

Yes Sir I agree he said when it hit the sign it bent the right side handlbar over the tank and he knew he could not recover so he bailed just before it went off the side of the ridge.I'm amazed it did'nt hit his right hand Wow. That was very near to being a really bad one. Sure glad he is OK. I'm sure he made the right move when he jumped off the bike.... Lucky for him the pine neddles was about a foot deep where he landed.

Steep hill and full of trees, would not make a ride down that hill very fun.
I got to him first.
I saw him sitting on the side of the road with no bike.
Scary at first.
Just sitting there and then I saw his bike.
OMG
But glad he did not break a bone in this wreck.
Could have been a bad one.

If the traffic sign was attached to the back of your bike like a flag, pointing behind, no one would be able to catch up with you. They'd be stuck eternally at 35mph.

From your storyline Joe, I'd say he was a very skilled rider and was aware of what he was doing to jump off that bike. I doubt that I could think that fast, which is why I ride 35 like that sign posted. Kind of speeds the thinking process for me.

If you are riding and it is a must that you keep your eyes on the road, you are riding too fast.

He was'nt speeding we had just pulled out from the over-look about 200 yards behind my bike in the first picture.I was up front and heard the impact of the sign and thought how in the hell could he have crashed already ??? Greg is a good rider he holds his line well and can ride with the best of them in the twisties.Jack was behind him when he crashed and said about the time he saw the kick-stand it hit the road throwing the bike into a hard right into the speed limit sign
