Hi all I have a 1999 tourer when I first start the bike in the morning I'm getting white smoke out the tail pipe. it's not a thick white smoke but it noticable and it continues until it warms up. Once the initial start up it doesn't do it again the rest of the day. I have just over 37,000 miles and it runs fine. My oil level as well as anti feeze level never changes.
Any idea's what could be wrong? bad rings? or seals?
Thanks Keith

Is La Porte, TX near the coast? I think you might be in the Houston area. As your pipes cool down, they will condense lots of humidity inside the pipes. When you start it up, the water will boil and show as steam coming out the exhaust. Not to worry.

mine does that from time to time. as long as the bike is running good and the levels are not dropping you are good. the lady is just aging.

One of the by products of combustion is water, when the bike is cold and choke is on the mixture is rich and combustion temps are low and you will see the water as vapor, Watch the tailpipe on your car on a cold start, it dows the same thing. This is especially true at low ambient temperatures. As the engine warms up and you start running Stoich, there is less water vapor. No problem if it goes away when hot.
If you keep seeing white smoke when the engine is hot, you have coolant getting into the combustion chamber through a crack or leaky gasket. You should also notice a low coolant level.

If it is comeing from the left pipe only check to see if the oil level is to high. Check with the bike level and do not screw the dip stick in. Wipe it down and just set it in place. Have seen this on Goldwings when parked on the side stand with too much oil.

Cages do this also. It's not unique to the Valks.

Don’t get too worried about it if your oil and coolant are all right. Your exhaust pipe is made of stainless steal so that won’t rust either, you’re all right. I’ll bet that your car or truck does the same thing also, but your not three feet from the pipes to notice.
