With any luck we'll stay dry today
Today was a good day for riding, but if lucky = dry, we were very unlucky

I left out of South Carolina this morning to meet up with Joe and Wimp and Paul at
Topton, sort of the Intersection of 129 and 19 in North Carolina... it was probably
between 35 and 40 degrees, but no rain yet when I left... I stayed real warm
with electric clothes, it was a real pleasant ride up on 28 and 19... I got a HD goPro for
Christmas, it gives a fisheye effect to close-up stuff (like the bike), and it sees
a lot more of the bike than the old camera did...

Joe said there'd be a place at 129/19 with a bunch of flags. I was the first one
there - there were two places, one closed down, and one with a few flags...
so I pulled into the one with the flags...

I hung out there for a half hour with these folks, drinking coffee and such...

Then Paul showed up, he passed the store I was at, I guessed he was going to
turn around at the other store and come back, but he didn't... so I walked out
to where I could see him, and Joe and Wimp were there at the closed down store...
apparently it only closed recently and was covered with flags before... so we were off...
it started with a medium rain about then...

Later at a gas stop we met this fellow, who started out in Upstate New York
on this rusty Wal-Mart bicycle, made his way to the South, was headed from
here to Knoxville via The Dragon, and then on to his final destination in
Texas... He's writing a book - I was telling this same story to Carolyn, I
got to this point and she guessed the name of the book would be
What Was I Thinking?
she makes me laugh... Good luck to
him, his book really will be called
Memoirs Of A Traveling Man...

BBQ for lunch naturally

It warmed up to 50 or so after lunch, and I was looking forward to seeing
some pictures I thought I was taking of us riding together after the rain
started coming down pretty good, but I flubbed getting the camera started
with my clumsy gloves, so that's it...
We split up and I headed back to South Carolina and they followed Paul back
towards Atlanta... they called me a little bit ago, they're headed out to the
Outback...
