Any one going and can give info on it,and is there a group going to try to travel together to go.
I have never been but was told you can camp there if you want, how long of a ride is it,and any idea how much gas one might need to get to it and back?

Will, from where you are it's about 625 miles each way.  Assuming you get 30 miles per gallon and fuel is about $3.20 per gallon, you will spend about $130 on fuel.

Hotglue and Flamingo Babe live on several acres some of which they make available for camping.  They have a pond and what Hotglue calls a "Man Cave", a primitive bunk room in the camping area.

Hotglue's BBQ is a lot of fun and usually is attended by over a hundred riders.  It's also in easy proximity to allow for a ride down to Galveston and enjoy that area.

From where Mama and I are, we'll likely break the trip up with an overnight midway each direction.

You'll have a great time.

Will, you can avoid OKC and DFW by routing through Cushing, OK and past Longview, Texas.  You'd still have to skirt the east side of Houston.  It would add about 40 miles to the trip and maybe an hour of travel time.

Here's a route that adds a couple of hours but keeps you out of the big cities:

Lake Texoma sort of throws a wrench into the party, other than that it's a pretty direct route :/

my only problem is going through some of the big cities on a bike during rush hour.

My impression of Houston was that it is like Atlanta, on steroids.  coolsmiley

On the way there (from the east coast) we dropped off 10, rode down the Bolivar peninsula,
caught the ferry over to Galveston and snuck up on HotGlue's via 45... I think it was rush
hour on Friday when we went up 45, it was horrendous, I can't imagine what it is like
riding through Houston at that time of day...

We had a big win when leaving... earlyish on Sunday morning... some Louisianans who
knew what they were doing lead us through a maze of almost empty Interstates, we went
through so many interchanges it was like riding in the mountains, but we just followed them,
mild traffic, easy as pie...

It is an awesome event, I enjoyed everything about going there, being there, and getting back
home from there...

I was kinda thinking about this route for the trip down.

Probably leave Thurs evening and stop somewhere along the way then on to Friendswood Friday.

Houston wasn't bad when I went through it last year, and frankly DFW was a blast on the solo run home Sunday.

MP and I left last year thurs morning at first light, took till dark to get to Athens, TX,  there were al lot of stops made north of Tulsa to warm up and scrape Ice.  I reckon one could get to tulsa a lot quicker if not for the unusual cold last year.  I'm trying to figure a way to make it again this year.  Hoser

I think we were K.S.U. about 6pmit thursday last year and made Norman OK for the overnight about 1am. It was nasty cold on that first leg until we got south of Wichita and the other side of that front. Hoping for a more pleasant ride this year.
