Hi all,

Great board I have learned a ton already from reading different posts. I am considering buyin a valkyrie for the first time and one of the bikes tires are near the end of their life span. What is the average price fornew set of tires mounted and put on the bike?

Anywhere from $350 to $600 depending on what tires and who mounts them. Call your Stealer I mean dealer.

That is unless you go DARKSIDE, its cheaper but you will prolly have to mount it yourself.

Got my last set of Metzeler 880's on the rims for $400 at a local private shop. Had to do the wheel removal and reinstall myself or it would have cost about $60-100 more. Just as well though, because I found my splines hadn't been properly cared for on the two previous trips to the stealer, and had significant wear because of it. I'll do my own from now on.

Nobody takes better care of your bike than you!

Last tire I bought was Aug. 2010 I bought a rear Avon Cobra from Jake Wilson website for 161.99 and paid local dealer 46.99 to mount and balance with dyna beads. I removed and installed myself. Now ordering an Avon Cobra for the front and Jake wilson is still the cheapest I can find.
I noticed a sign at the dealer waiting for my rear tire to be mounted and the same tire removed and installed by them was 369.00. As you can see labor is rather pricey at a dealer but you gotta do what you gotta do.
I was a little leary about removing the tire myself since it was my first time but it wasn't as bad as I thought it would be.

You need to do your homework here and make some decisions.    If this is your first Valk you may want to have the dealer do the whole job, however, it would be best if you remove the wheels yourself and have the tires mounted & balanced at a motorcycle shop.   May as well get used to working on the bike right away.    Shop the internet for the best deal on tires with free shipping.   I find that companies who ship UPS usually get mine delivered within 2 days with regular ground service.  Find out how much your local shop is going to charge for mount & balance....is it worth it or should you have them  buy the tires & do the whole job?  Unless you have some experienced help, with some equipment, I wouldn't recommed you try changing out the tires yourself.   I did my own from day one, read the articles, built the homemade bead breaker, etc.    After my 4th set I bought a NoMar tire changer & balancer....I,m on my 10th set now.   You'll get there, but don't bite off more than you can chew on the first go round.

JC was right....your the one who needs to make sure your splines are cleaned and greased!  You don't need to read many articles here before you realize that fact.
