firstly... i dont know JACK about what it akes to run a forum or to set up a board.and YES I REALIZE this forum is FREE.. i have been on this board for several years now and I enjoy coming here.. and YES I do realize its winter time and many VRCCers have PMS.. but it seems like more people are getting uptight with each other and people are bein censored or gettin an ass chewin by Willow or they are whining because someone else doesnt believe the same thing.. you guys know what I'm talkin about.. soo instead of constant censoring and people fighting and people leaving... wouldnt it be GREAT if we could have an off topic thread where people could go toe to toe if they want or cutup or whatever.. there are a lot of folks here and a lot of folks who might come back if there was such a place.. you would just have to make sure you are wearin yer big boy pants when you go to that thread and whining to Willow wouldnt be an option.. if ya dont like to play rough say outa that section of town.. I would think it would be a winnin situation for EVERYONE.. WILLOW included.. and if we hace to pay a few bucks to set it up .. I'm in..  |

I've seen just that done on other boards.
One of the boards I frequent call it "The Jungle"... sub-title, "Leave you fragile feelings at the door".
They also have a couple of sections that are "By request ONLY", where you have to PM the moderator to specifically request and gain access.
However, the owner of the server also sells Logo gear (stickers/shirts/etc.) just to offset the costs of doing all that... AND, he added in a "Free Classifieds" area where lots of people give away items for a small donation to the board.
Basically... what I'm getting at is that this can be done, but the Moderators have to be willing to put in LOTS of extra time... AND find a way to fund it.
All easier said than done...

I had my own forum on Delphi once.....ran it for about 2 years....30,000 + posts.....there were a few times when there were 500-600 posts a day.....but then, there were only around 50 folks in it.....male and female.....and I never erased a single post.....if ppl had a problem with each other, they had to be big boys and girls and settle it for themselves...... ......I closed it down eventually......just cause..... |

The suggestion isn't new. It comes up very regularly. It's not a new or growing issue. It's old and continuing.
There are some potential issues with your solution.
One is that as soon as we open up such a secondary board there will be arguments, complaints, and criticism over why this thread or that wasn't placed on the "other" board.
Another is that most people's skin is not nearly so thick as they think it is. It's easy to accuse the target of being too sensitive when one is dishing it out. My memory is that some of the best disher-outers have a history of having had their feelings hurt and going away at least for a time. You, for one, come to mind.
Lastly, once we start down the slope of an additional board, there will predictably be requests for another and another and soon we'll look just like a lot of other boards with yawningly low traffic and very little interest.
In the words of one of my heroes, I'm disinclined to acquiesce to your request. The good news for you is there are three other staff members and they can easily overrule me. |

With member # 5666 I wasn't here at the start but I have been a regular visitor to this site for over 10 years. For the first 3-4 years the tech board was the only place I went. Anything you wanted to know could be answered when it came to the Valkyrie. It was a time when a lot of experimentation was going on and finding better and/or easier ways of doing things. Not everyone agreed on every subject but it was Valkyrie related and the "proof was in the pudding" in the end. I eventually stuck my nose in on the general board and I found things to be much the same as they are now only the names have changed. I'll admit that I got sucked in, wanting to add my two cents worth, sort of a sparring match with those I disagreed. I have finally learned that my participation in those threads while at times entertaining are taking away from the usefullness of the general board discussion site. I too have thought that it would be nice a have a separate area for the sparring matches but I believe Willow is right that it would not work for the reasons he stated.
Just make a conscious decision for yourself, will your/my participation in this thread add to the usefullness and enjoyment of this board or not. The pot stirrers will continue to stir, but the fewer posts (recognition) made will help to minimize there impact over all. Self control is the only policeman we need.

Hey, can a newbie to this board give his opinion????? I have only been associated with this forum for a few weeks, but already have figured out who everyone is and what their bag is, just like all of you have done, to include me probably. I, like you, have been involved with other forums. I usually leave them within a month because of the constant bickering and posturing and just plain BS. It's like hormone overdose with some people. Every personality type in the world shows up, and their personality issues become magnified over the Internet. The more posts they have, the more they feel they have the right to push buttons harder. I guess that's human nature,"I've been here ten years, blah, blah, blah, blah". this forum is really pretty cool and it has so much information about Valkyries and keeping them alive, etc. Why not just be different, and keep it pure? If ya want to flex your brain muscles and argue about politics, or wars, or religion, or prezidents(or lack thereof), go to politic forums, or para military forums, or whatever? So far, I have enjoyed 95% of the posts and friendly arguments and rubs, but man, sometimes some of you act like big babies and mamas boys, I mean geeez, grow up sometimes. I don't know Willow, but crap, give the guy a hand and protect the Valkyrie board before it turns into just another board full of pissing contestants. That's all I'm gonna say bout that  |
