i just found out that i may have a bearing on the output shaft has gone bad behind the clutch inside the engine case. has anyone had this problem?  two mechanics has said it maybe that bearing.
the bearing has gone bad, dry and grinding noise and vibration on the clutch handle when pulled in. the noise goes away when in gear w clutch in, driving on the highway the noise comes back. no noise in neutral. first gear is jerky and rough. i never let my oil go for than 5000 miles. i have no problem tearing into the engine unless i have to. i'm a machinist and can make tools if i have to. but need some tips on where to start or problems that may come up. first step would be a service manual.

Sounds more like the rivets in the clutch basket letting go.  Symptoms sound just like others have had.

Yep, sounds like the rivets to me.  Pretty easy fix.

Download a manual from Dag's site in Norway.

Pull the left saddlebag and proceed in to the clutch.

You will have to make a couple of tools to get the basket apart and to compress the disks so as to line them up.

Seems like in Shop Talk is a write up on clutch repair.

Last clutch, I helped Dragbars tear his clutch apart at one of the InZanes in Zanesville.   We did it in the parking lot at the Motel.    We put one rod in back wards so had to tear it apart the 2nd time.     2nd time I wasn't there.  I was on MGM headed somewhere, seems like it was a Fish fry.      Been too damn long ago, for an old fart to remember that.     Hell I can't even remember where I put my glasses.   Sure glad I don't need them on the puter.

OOOOps, found the glasses, they were in the bathroom.    I took them in there to clean and got involved in something else.   Oh well.......

I agree with others. Some rivets are failing and your clutch plates will look something like this....

And the more failed rivets you have can prevent you from disengaging the clutch plates adequately enough to shift into 1st gear.
What happens is the spring plates can randomly stack up and "warp" the plates preventing occasionally inadequate function.
I had no damage to my clutch plate basket, but others have.

yea, i found out the stealer dealer won't work on valkyries. they only will do tires changes and oil, fork oil,...routine stuff. as far as major engine work or drive lines. No. wish i could buy their tools half cost if they don't "work on valkyries" anymore. they had a trainee spend 3 hours to replace a tire valve on the rear tire. i was lazy that day. but 3 hours! come on man. A week later i wanted to recheck my splines, the stop bolt for the rear brake caliber was torqued to over 125ftlbs. COME ON. it was a bitch to break loose, not to mention the axle nut was buggered up too.  dont let trainees use air tools on anything.

well, i pulled the clutch plates and looked at the dampener plates. all the rivets are still there. there's a slight wobble, very slight. the bottom of the case is very clean, no metal at all. the slave cylinder and rod are nice and wet. i rotated the output shaft, feels ok i think. i wonder if should go south to the drive line or not. does anyone have suggestions. i'm stumped. denial about the output shaft bearing inside the case is setting in.  Angry  how do i know if the dampener plate is going bad?
