I'd like to get a lot more visability out of my stock brake light with a better bulb. I have a Kuryakin run-turn-brake control so any new bulb would have to be compatible with that.
Any suggestions?

halogen bulb much brighter than a std 1157 bulb. has lasted over 10 yrs.

I put one of the same ones that Detn8er has on his bike on my bike last week... Too bad we didn't compare our tail lights while we were all together the other day... The running light is MUCH brighter than the bulb was, and the brake light is a whole lot brighter than the running light, I wish I had taken before/after pictures at night...  You have to cut off a little part of the inner reflector to make it work... -Mike |

A lot to pay? Perhaps, but in my opinion, just the possibility that having a ridiculously bright tail light might save me from being run over by some half blind, blue haired little old lady down here in Florida, makes the LED unit worth every penny. Plus you have to see it to understand exactly how much brighter than just a regular 1157 bulb it is. |

I agree.....People actually think your brake light is on untill you actually apply the brakes.....Then it's holy crap that thing is bright!!! Love mine. Don't remeber exactly where I got mine but it was around 80 bucks wth free shipping.....Shop the world wide interweb thingy and you'll save some dollars. |

That 128 LED bulb up a couple of posts, here it is in normal running.  Here is is with the brake light on.  Both of these pictures were taken in a well lite service area. I don't remember where I got my bulb, but it came from one of those light stores, and it has been in there close to 13 years and all 128 LED's still light. Notice the reflection in the brake light picture off of the tractor seat. Money wise, ya get what ya pay for, I don't care what ya do, I'm just showing you what is out there. |

At the top of the reflector there is a tab that prevents the LED unit from fitting far enough back at the top for the lens to fit back on. You either have to cut or bend the tab back. (I just bent it) Also LED's are pretty directional and I found that due to the angle of the installation in the housing, the LED's were aimed up and so vehicles behind you don't get the full effect of the light unless they are REALLY close with a line of sight several feet above the light. To improve this, I used my handy dandy Dremel tool and ground out a groove in the plastic at the bottom of the reflector/housing. This allowed the LED unit to sit in about half an inch further at the bottom and shine more straight back instead of upwards. |

I used to have a halogen 1157 bulb in there, until one of the guys I ride with complained that he was getting constantly fooled into thinking I had applied the brake when I hadn't. So I removed it. Now that I think of it, maybe it's not such a bad idea for it to look like the brake light is on. Surely they will know it when I REALLY hit the brake, it's so much brighter. My bike has the turn signals set up as running and brake too, with red LED arrays and clear lenses.

I have the set up above with a clear lense on my IS. I'm not all that impressed with it for added visibility. I just purchased this  Have not installed it yet - I've been procrastinating on my winter PM. I will take before and after pics of the difference when done. Under $75 w/ shipping. |

My friend Wimp was riding behind me on Sunday and said he was having a hard time picking up my brake light. When he showed me at the gas station how dull it was I started this thread.

Made my own.  It was a lot of drilling and checking and ended up a little bit out of straight line.  Seemed like a good place to mount my shrader valve for filling my 416's also.

That looks like a great product, I may get one myself,
You might want to consider hooking up a "Back Off" brake light system also, it flashes the break light numerous time before it locks on steady. I followed a bike with one and bought it the next week.

I have that LED panel in a fender tail light under my I/S trunk.... but right now only have the brake light wired (with a bullet plug to wire in the tail light if I opt to modify for Super Valk). Having the brake light POP on really stands out, maybe even more so than having the tail/brake light. That is really bright... and I have the "Back Off" modulator as well. Received lots of Wow statements on the brake light.
