Where is the best place to get a quality double row bearing for doing the rear wheel bearing mod?  I've heard of people being unhappy with some of the cheaper bearings.

NAPA wants $51.  Motion Industry wants $49.  I'm assuming both of these are "SKF" brand.

Someone suggested "Federal Mogal 5204 KSSE" was the best.

It seems like I paid about $30 for an All Balls "kit" that had a both a wide and a narrow bearing, plus a dust seal.

Would someone who knows about this stuff please enlighten me?

After my summer trip in '05 I replaced both rear wheel bearings. I don't think I paid $51 for both bearings. That was 80K miles ago and their still fine.

Sandy, are you talking about changing them out with standard bearings?  (narrow on the left, wide on the right)

My left side standard width bearing was toast after 40,000 miles.  I replaced both bearings with a bearing kit that I got on ebay for thirty-something dollars.

I've since cut an extra wheel spacer down and am looking for a double row bearing to do the bearing mod at my next wheel removal.

If you get the SKF request the American made. Stay away fro All ball (China made). I can check and see what I can get one for. Got a place not far from where I live.

Look in your local Yellow pages (or online search) for a Bearing House. There are lots of places around town that sell bearings.

I paid $17 for a non-China made double row bearing, for the rear wheel mode.

YES: That was standard size bearings. NOT the double row left side.

That's about the same price I paid for SKF 3204-2RS from Motion Industries.
